Quite agreed. But.....it was dangerous just being Christian as well, so that reasoning falls flat on its face.
Both sides had the commands from God that they ignored. Both sides were full of guilt. Once the split was irreversible the Christians, at least, should have let go of their anit-semitism. They didn't. It's still far too prevalent today!! It shames me to no limit!
(I know, it's easy to point a finger today, having never suffered such consequences for my decisions. I cannot say what I would have done, I can only say what I pray I would have done or not done.)
Very good!

Me too!

Other than anti-semitism being the core of its rejection, what is wrong with this view? The one main change being moving from a sin offering of an animal,, we now have Yeshua's death and resurrection.

I really don't think anti-semitism has anything to do with this. It's about orthodoxy. Really. The Ebionites were heretics, plain and simple.

We can't just play the anti-semitic card whenever we disagree with the early Christians, or we risk "maxing" the card out.

For late First-Century Christians, association with Judaism may have been a little dangerous. Don't you think?

Being a Christian was equally lethal, as the litany of early Christian martyrs demonstrates. Some of these were at the hands of their fellow Jews too.

However, there was less danger of being "Jewish" in the first century than there was of merely living in Palestine. There was danger of being in political rebellion against Rome. Rome did not persecute the Jews only for their religion, but mainly for their political rebellion. Of course there was always religious persecution, but this is not the sole domain of Jews or Christians alone. Lots of sects persecuted each other.

I'm sure they said the same about the mainstream Gentile Christians. It's all a matter of POV.

  • They regarded Jesus as the Messiah and insisted on the necessity of following Jewish religious law and rites.
  • They used only one of the Jewish Gospels, revered James the Just and rejected Paul of Tarsus as an apostate from the Law.
  • Their name suggests that they placed a special value on voluntary poverty.
Yup, hairy tics! How dare they!

I actually listened to a sermon yesterday online. It was from Moriel Ministries with Jacob Prasch. You can read and listen to it here. It's all about the formation of Christian cults, and I think it would make you think about what you've just asked.

From the standard Christian perspective, what you've just described is no more Christian than Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons, and these are not even standard Christian cults. There are cults within Christianity (Prasch mentions Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin as examples of cult leaders who came from within Christianity - and represent examples of those who are really Christian but also veered off into cult status). He does a good run-down of what makes a cult leader, and I think listening to it was beneficial.

(Mind you, I find his site hard to tolerate, since he advocates keeping Torah specifically for the purposes of evangelizing Jews, which I disagree with.)

 what did I ask? I only posted the beliefs of the Ebionites, which from my studies would describe the congregation headed by James at Jerusalem. I don't see how JW or LDS believe any of that but it's been awhile since I've studied on their beliefs, at least a couple decades.

May I ask anybody here (who is familiar with whom I am referring to) what their opinion was of Zola Levitt??......

Watched him for many years, he had some good shows, I especially liked the background of Israel, but he is not Messianic, but a Hebrew Christian.

I'm one who followed the Copeland gang strongly for over 10 years (with great emptiness, mind you, yet I held on). Since my return to Yeshua, just over 6 years ago (with a 10yr period of nothingness). I try to avoid anything and anyone on TV!! I got so badly burned before that I shy away from anyone walking in eye of the media. (Possibly to my detriment, but there you have it.)

Some things that are different (and I'm sure a HC will come in and correct me)

Worship on Shabbat vs Worship on Sun day
Eat Kosher foods VS Eat anything with G-d blessing
Family Purity practiced (Niddah rules) VS this was done away with
Celebrating the Appointed feasts VS Celebrating Easter, Christmas and other Christian holy days

Just the basics. Many that are Jewish Christians may do both, which to me is either heretical, hypocritical or they do it not for the religious aspect but for the ethnic relationship or family obligations.

I would like to ask a question....and I am hoping against hope that I will not inadvertently offend anyone or cause anyone in this forum to think about censuring me for asking it......

The world "Christian" originates from the Greek word "Christos," which is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word "Mashiach" (מָשִׁיחַ)......

Both words basically mean "anointed one" or "one who is anointed".

"Christian" is the English word we use when describing a person who is a believer in or follower of Christ.

What I would like to ask is, what is the transliterated form of the word "Christian" in Hebrew?

The reason I am asking for a transliteration is because I already know that the word "Christian" written in Hebrew is "נוצרי"......

But, how would I write it or say it transliterated into English?

Minim. ^_^

"....he is not Messianic, but a Hebrew Christian."
Okay, time for Tim to admit his ignorance.....
What is the difference between a Messianic Jew and a Hebrew Christian??
(....and please don't say "about 40 pounds"...:))

:Ddepends. Could be more. So what? I like boys with some meat on them, that looks nice! Huggable.

Anyway, words "Messianic" and "Christain" referres to religion one ascribes to , and Jew is (a curse acc. to my grandmother) a nationality.
Some purists would jump on my throat foamy a the mouth, proving that Chirstian Jew sounds like Kosher Bacon, but in reality there are Jews buddhists, Jews Atheists, Jews agnostics, Jews Christians and Jews Muslims ( no,i dont think the last one ) just cheking if you still awake

Adherents of Messianism can be also jewish or gentile by nationality.

I thought to be "minuth" you had to be Jewish by blood and meet one or more of five additional qualifications???

Or encounter an ass of a theo opponent; one that throws insults without thinking, then qualifiers are waived. But I am bloody jewish, thats for sure...;)

Its a big question and i dont have time right now, if you wish, in a day or so? Maybe make another thread?
Even though this one seems like a nice shuk hapishpeshim, people discuss anything here:thumbsup:
