They pray to Mary for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus says He is the only mediator
1 Tim 2:1-2 – because Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man (1 Tim. 2:5), many deny the Catholic belief that the saints on earth and in heaven can mediate on our behalf. But before Paul’s teaching about Jesus as the “one mediator,” Paul urges supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. Paul is thus appealing for mediation from others besides Christ, the one mediator. - Catholics DO NOT worship Mary, the Mother of Christ -- as though she were a deity. Of all the misconceptions about Catholic belief and practice, this one is the most absurd. Catholics are just as aware as Protestants that Mary was a human creature, and therefore not entitled to the honors which are reserved to God alone. What many non-Catholics mistake for adoration is a very profound love and veneration, nothing more. -
1 Tim 2:3 – because this subordinate mediation is good and acceptable to God our Saviour. Because God is our Father and we are His children, God invites us to participate in Christ’s role as mediator.
1 Tim. 2:5 – therefore, although Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man, there are many intercessors (subordinate mediators).
They teach purgatory is a place for working of your sins, God says you can’t work for salvation, it’s a gift of grace
Matt. 12:32 – Jesus says, “And anyone who says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but no one who speaks against the Holy Spirit will be forgiven either in this world or in the next.” Jesus thus clearly provides that there is forgiveness after death. The phrase “in the next” (from the Greek “en to mellonti”) generally refers to the afterlife (for example,
Mark 10.30;
Luke 18.30; 20.34-35; Eph. 1.21 for similar language). Forgiveness is not necessary in heaven, and there is no forgiveness in hell. This proves that there is another state after death, and the Church for 2,000 years has called this state purgatory. -
Luke 12:47-48 – when the Master comes (at the end of time), some will receive light or heavy beatings but will live. This state is not heaven or hell, because in heaven there are no beatings, and in hell we will no longer live with the Master. - 1 Cor. 3:10-15 – works are judged after death and tested by fire. Some works are lost, but the person is still saved. Paul is referring to the state of purgation called purgatory. The venial sins (bad works) that were committed are burned up after death, but the person is still brought to salvation. This state after death cannot be heaven (no one with venial sins is present) or hell (there is no forgiveness and salvation).
They believe that they turn the bread and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ, Christ said do this in memory of me
John 6:53 – 58 – Notice Jesus does not correct their literal interpretation. Instead, Jesus eliminates any metaphorical interpretations by swearing an oath and being even more literal about eating His flesh. In fact, Jesus says four times we must eat His flesh and drink His blood. Catholics thus believe that Jesus makes present His body and blood in the sacrifice of the Mass.
John 6:54, 56, 57, 58 – He uses an even more literal verb, translated as “trogo,” which means to gnaw or chew or crunch. He increases the literalness and drives his message home. Jesus will literally give us His flesh and blood to eat. The word “trogo” is only used two other times in the New Testament (in Matt. 24:38 and
John 13:18) and it always means to literally gnaw or chew meat. While “phago” might also have a spiritual application, “trogo” is never used metaphorically in Greek. So Protestants cannot find one verse in Scripture where “trogo” is used symbolically, and yet this must be their argument if they are going to deny the Catholic understanding of Jesus’ words. Moreover, the Jews already knew Jesus was speaking literally even before Jesus used the word “trogo” when they said “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” (
John 6:52).
They believe the pope is infallible, really? A mere human unable to make a mistake about Gods word
The doctrine of Papal Infallibility does not mean the Pope is always right in all his personal teachings. -
John 11:51-52 – To argue that sinners cannot have the power to teach infallibly is ignorance. In this verse, God allows Caiaphas to prophesy infallibly, even though he was evil and plotted Jesus’ death. God allows sinners to teach infallibly, just as He allows sinners to become saints. As a loving Father, He exalts His children, and is bound by His own justice to give His children a mechanism to know truth from error.
They pray and worship statues of Mary, and many other saints, God says you shall not worship statues or false gods.
Deut. 5:8 – God’s commandment “thou shall not make a graven image” is entirely connected to the worship of false gods. God does not prohibit images to be used in worship. -
Exodus 25:18-22; 26:1,31 – for example, God commands the making of the image of a golden cherubim. This heavenly image, of course, is not worshiped by the Israelites. Instead, the image disposes their minds to the supernatural and draws them to God.
God says you shall not add or take from my word, the Catholic Church put took away the real command of you shall not worship statues and instead put in you shall not covet your neighbors goods and another command of you shall not covet your neighbors wife. The real command is do not covet.
They pray and light candles to the dead, God says you shoudnt. There is a chasm between life and dead, one can’t contact the other
Rom. 8:35-39 – death does not separate the family of God and the love of Christ. We are still united with each other, even beyond death. - Matt. 17:3;
Mark 9:4;
Luke 9:30 – Jesus converses with “deceased” Moses and Elijah. They are more alive than the saints on earth. - Matt. 22:32;
Mark 12:27;
Luke 20:38 – God is the God of the living not the dead. The living on earth and in heaven are one family.
They created extra books and added it to the Bible. None of it backs up scripture
DEUTEROCANONICAL BOOKS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT: Matt. 2:16 – Herod’s decree of slaying innocent children was prophesied in Wis. 11:7 – slaying the holy innocents. - Matt. 6:19-20 – Jesus’ statement about laying up for yourselves treasure in heaven follows Sirach 29:11 – lay up your treasure. - Matt.. 7:12 – Jesus’ golden rule “do unto others” is the converse of Tobit 4:15 – what you hate, do not do to others. And so on. They are not extra books! Luther discarded them. calling the Epistle (Catholic Letter) of James as an "epistle of straw!" And he was about to rip Revelations from the bible also. His friends stepping in to stop him. - The Protestants attempt to defend their rejection of the deuterocanonicals on the ground that the early Jews rejected them. However, the Jewish councils that rejected them (e.g., School of Javneh (also called “Jamnia” in 90 – 100 A.D.) were the same councils that rejected the entire New Testatment canon. Thus, Protestants who reject the Catholic Bible are following a Jewish council that rejected Christ and the Revelation of the New Testament.
They created pagan holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Look up the pagan rituals of Easter, it is nothing but a drunken, fornicating orgy - You must site your proof, just because something seems to be in parallel does not necessarily mean the same.
