After work today, I called her and we talked a little bit. I then made it clear that I wasn't feeling the chemistry between us, but that I thought she was a really good person. She took it very well, and we're now officially friends.

Again, thank you for your advice. It was definitely the right thing to be upfront with her.

I don't mean to sound flippant; that's just the truth. You can be kind and polite, but if you aren't totally honest and unambiguous the other person will continue to have false hope, and will hurt longer and deeper than if you nip the problem in the bud.
