Warren Chisum is a Christian who is the Republican Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He recently said in a memo that he does not believe the earth stands still and does not rotate, citing this site (http://www.fixedearth.com/) as evidence. He then went on to claim that the Copernicus, evolution, and the big bang are all part of "Jewish conspiracy to undermine the Old Testament." Here's the link. http://www.burntorangereport.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2916

How do you feel about Christians like this, and does it strike you that people who support evolution view your efforts for creationism with the same absurdity as I'm assuming you view Chisum's claim the world is fixed in place?

I read most of the memo attributed to this guy. If I understood it correctly, the guy himself didn't say those things. He actually only passed along some information that did not originate with him.

I can tell you that if it had been me, I would have read, VERY THOROUGHLY, any information or memo that someone asked me to forward. Reviewing this incident will show you why!

Having said all that, anybody who says those things has no idea of Christianity or Judaism or history.

The one organization cited, from info in the article, states that the organization (internet site) is a typical anti-Semitic collection of nutcases. Nobody can seriously believe that the holocaust never happened.

I have been to Dachau (the concentration camp near Munich, Germany. I can assure you that it is real and that the tens of thousands of pages of documents are real, as are the photos. Not only that, I know people who were at Dachau when the American army took it over.

Anyone who cites sources like the ones cited in the "memo" is hopelessly stupid and has let their imagination and emotions carry them into a fantasy land.

By the way, the guy you name is in the Texas legislature. Your post would seem to place him in the federal legislature.

I think you can tell how I feel about people like them.

I have no clue who he is or what beliefs he has.. I put his name in google and found this....

Controversy
Chisum distributed an anti-evolution essay written by Ben Bridges, a Georgia state representative. The essay attacked evolution, claimed that the sun revolves around the Earth, and contained links to a website calling Albert Einstein and Carl Sagan "Kabbalists".[2] The website, fixedearth.com, espouses anti-Semitic, creationist and geocentrist beliefs, and claims that Jewish physicists are part of an ancient conspiracy attempting to destroy Christian teachings about the age and structure of the universe.[3] Chisum came under attack by the Anti-Defamation League and others for supporting anti-Semitism and has defended himself by saying that the distribution was out of courtesy to Bridges, and that he was unaware of the content of the website. "I did not go to the website, which I understood maybe I should've done," Chisum said he’s "willing to apologize if I've offended anyone."
