I had a conversation awhile ago w/ a co-worker about christianity and assurance of salvation - well, it didn't work out as i thought it would bc she just looked at me like i was crazy or something but, its what happened to me, so, i explained it as truthful as i could but, that explanation went in one ear and out the other.

Is there an easier/better way to explain assurance of salvation? For me, it was a feeling - a definite feeling, deep peace from God telling me of my assurance i was saved and i knew it and thats what i go by from now on. Thats the only thing I know of.

May I ask how God showed some of you or gave you the assurance of your salvation?

I believe everyone experiences it a different way, but, i just don't know how to explain it to someone who doesn't believe. The usual responses I get from people when they pray is: i don't feel anything, nothing has changed in my life or things in their life have gotten worse. (I can agree w/ them on many of those things, however, i had seen God work in my life a LOT in the past - more like the first 3-4 yrs I was saved n not so much anymore) but, to explain what to do or whatever to a non-christian, i'm just horrible at doing that and need some help in these areas.

You have to give to get. Accept God's love, accept that Jesus Christ died on the Cross and was risen from the dead, and then read the scripture daily and nightly. God will grace your life with knowledge as you bask in his Almighty Glory. That good?

When I was saved I had a voice in my ear tell me to go into "the room on the right". I told the people there that were helping me become one in Christ.. I went, opened the door, and there were these two baby dolls sitting on a stand. This represented the fact that my sisters were with him. The room became so weird in feeling that the two guys with me fell to the floor praying and crying. I've noticed that God isn't always this obvious with others as he was with me.

True assurance comes when you give up the self. When you give up the self, you no longer fear anything - not even Hell. Don't you see? It is as clear as crystal!

The self is what fears. It is the thing that desires heaven, it is the thing that desires all earthly pleasures. It is this state of clinging, this state of wanting that brings the soul to Hell. Give up the self, and suddenly your entire perspective shifts. Suddenly you realise that God isn't some wrathful monster that you need to be terrified of, but Love personified, whose arms are wide open to receive you.

I know this document is a bit old in its wording, but the 1689 London Baptist Confession has a pretty solid conception of what assurance is; very specific in details, even though the language is a bit older. You can read it here. It includes Scripture references that they used to form the ideas.

1689 Baptist Confession of Faith

How would I describe it? An absolute and certain persuasion, founded completely and only on the merits of Jesus Christ and His blood, that you are a child of God, and that you will be saved; there is also examining yourself against the Word to see if you truly have the fruits, and the diagnosis coming up positive; and then, there is the testimony of the Holy Spirit Himself, who whispers in your ear, "Your sins have been forgiven. Go in peace." It is more than, "I think I am saved," or "I hope that I am saved," but it is instead, "I know" or "I feel I am saved."

The thing that I love most about assurance, and the reason I want it so much, is because of its fruits:
- Much deeper love for Christ
- More joy in prayer, Bible reading, hearing the Word, communion, etc.
- Greater watchfulness against sin
- Greater mortification of sin
- Greater showings of the fruits of the Spirit
- More joyful obedience to the Father
- Greater zeal in ministerial work
- More boldness in evangelism
- Faith that works by love
- No fear of death
- No fear of hell

I think the LBC covers it pretty well, so if you take some time and chew on that, it will probably help you give a much clearer answer.

Does this help?
