  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

MY DEAR SISTER IN CHRIST,

This question of yours is one that Satan loves to use against the newly saved, playing with their minds trying to convince them that they are not "really serious" about the commiting their lives to our Lord Jesus, and are thus not saved, and therefore might as well give up and return to the world. DON'T FALL FOR THIS!

Not to oversimplify things--although it is pretty simple: If you look into your heart and see that you have a TRUE desire to COMPLETELY surrender yourself to our Lord--then it is a done deal. Our Lord accepts TRUE desires as accomplished facts--because, of course, He has foreknowledge of how it will all come out.

Learning to COMPLETELY surrender ALL areas of our lives to our Lord, God, and Savior is the work of a lifetime. Just don't lose your desire to accomplish this, and the Holy Spirit will guide and strengthen you step by step in this lifelong process. God looks for "PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION", so just keep on keeping on as the Holy Spirit gives you light, and you will do just fine.

The best thing you can do right now is to find a Spiritual Mentor--pastor, youth group leader, elder, whatever--whose spiritual authority you can place yourself under so as to receive the mature guidance and support you need at the point in your walk with the Lord. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF, as Satan is alive and well and anxious to knock you off the straight and narrow path you have chosen. Also, if you haven't already done so, prepare yourself--with the help of your Spiritual Mentor--as quickly as possible for Baptism. This is most important in protecting yourself against the Evil One as the Holy Spirit's power is limited until Baptism allows Him to indwell us.

MAY GOD BLESS AND PROTECT YOU WITH HIS LOVE,
ephraim

It sounds as if you have gotten off to a good start. Prayer can definitly bring a person closer to God. As can having fellowship with other believers. Another thing to consider doing is reading God's Word daily as a way to defend against Satan. When Jesus was tempted in the desert, He quoted scripture to defend against Satan.

Ephraim gave some very sound advice (at least in my opinion). Following God and giving oneself completely to God to desiring to do His will is something each of us should do daily (if not moment by moment). But, since God is a full of mercy, if you slip up, admit your fault, repent and ask for forgiveness.

If you've given yourself to Christ completely, you'll be doing dangerous things for Him that would make most of us shudder. What's more, you won't mind it that much.

Just concentrate on giving yourself to Him every day, and learn to rest in His love. Direct your heart's desire to following Him and growing with Him. Pray often, read your Bible often. When you practice obedience to Him with the small things, that's giving a little bit more of your heart to Him. Keep doing that, and He'll trust you with bigger things to obey Him on. This is the journey of faith that He wants to walk with us, and this is how we get more intimate with Him.

Not entirely true. We can always get closer to God, though He loves us unconditionally. The relationship with God is not performance based, but performance is a factor in the quality of that relationship. If you don't act like a friend to a friend, your friendship will suffer.

Well, but the veil has been torn, the way is open. You just walk right in to God's throne.

I think a lot of people go through this, just not after first being saved, but on through their Christian walk.

I think if you asked more mature Christians if they wanted to get closer to Jesus, they would say yes. They wouldnt say I am as close to Him as I ever will be.

Prayer, Reading the Bible, spending time hearing His word.
I have been saved just over two years and I always pray for a closer relatationship. I truly believe we all do.

That's not what I'm debating. My point is that it is very wrong to be a jerk to Jesus by not obeying Him after He gave up His life for you.

The problem is that in order to do so we must leave all that is of the flesh behind!
What do you mean? And how do you do that?

Of course, but if I feel like being a jerk to Jesus, I probably don't really know what he did for me :)

It would be very wrong to try to earn God's acceptance AFTER he already died for us. It seems a lot of people are trying to do that.
