How do I know if I'm gaining weight from muscle and exercising a lot or system shock..

How about going to the doctors? I have only read page one so far. However, I read that you dehydrated yourself. We really need to drink about 2 litres of water a day. I drink 3+ on gym days. If you are properly hydrated you retain less fluid.

I think you should get a blood test to check your kidneys, amongst other things. I am not a doctor but if you are not eating a lot and exercising and your weight is creeping up, it might be a medical issue.

These high protein recommendations worry me. The keto diets are not healthy long term either, except the plant based protein ones have not had the same bad study results.

I would steer clear of protein supplements and try to get it from healthy sources beans/hummus etc.

Also are you taking hormones? I think contraceptive hormones cause weight gain. Not that they say that. However, I put on weight every time I used those, even though diet hadn't changed much.

Yeah, I just got a blood test for my thyroids last week, which they never found anything, and about 3 years ago I started limiting my liquid in take in fear it would ruin my kidney's or make me gain too much weight, since I started gaining more weight though I then decided to drink more water at that time, because the E.R. said I was dehydrated, because I was getting migraines, chest pains, nausea, and even got a UTI.

A lot of people are saying crazy things on my post. I honestly do not know if they are truly trying to help or not, but yeah I love Hummus. I eat a lot. I would normally get the K bars for Protein, but they didn't help the last time, well not like they used to. I still gained weight.

Hormones? Like Birth Control? Well I tried Depo only one time for birth control and once it started making me gain weight I immediately stopped it, never took it again after the next 3 months. It was from July 2017 to October 2017 and that's when they told me to go back and get another, but I never did. It made me gain at least 10 pounds during that course, and even after that I didn't stop gaining though. Now I just switched to a patch and my doctor said I was safe from weight gain if I wore the patch.

Dehydration ruins your kidneys, as does too much protein and bad UTI's.

Drinking water reduces fluid retention. Because you are getting enough. Your kidneys filter out toxins from your body, water cleans the filters. Protein in excess is something your kidneys need to eliminate, if they are already not getting enough fluid it is not a good mix.

If you retain fluid cut down on your salt/sodium, not water.

I did cut down on my salt. I always read the labels. I checked for too much salt and sugar. I eat a lot of peanut butter, mostly when I make sandwiches. That probably has protein. I don't just indulge though.

Peanut butter has a lot of fat? I don't eat it but peanuts have a lot of fat.

I'm sure ordinary protein is fine. I was replying about eating/drinking lots of things with added protein.

Well it probably is a bit fattening, but I don't just eat it excessively. It's been a couple of days now. And yes, I still ate peanuts in the past when I was dieting and it used to help a lot. I ate Almonds and Pistachios the most. I also used to get the K protein drinks. They used to help.

Have you tried that app Myfitnesspal.

It is good for easily logging calories and keeping control of what you are actually consuming. You can learn a lot quite quickly. It scans the barcodes of so many foods. So the calorie content is easy to work out, providing that you enter in the correct serving sizes. That way you could gain a better picture of what is actually going on.

Nuts are healthy but high in calories. These can add up if you are eating other high calorie foods

..from eating such low calories in the past 2 or 3 years? How do I know which one it really is? Because, I mean I do exercise a lot now a days. I've walked for 5 and 10 miles at a time too, but I've put on nearly 40 pounds over the past year and even when I ate small I gain weight. It's not my Thyroid, because I just had it checked. As far as fasting though I had only went about a day for dieting. I really need to know how to fix my body right now and I'm not always able to get to a doctor. I was just lucky the other day, since my fiance's mother took me and she's usually really sick herself. My fiance is working on getting his car towed and we don't have a lot of money right. My smaller clothes don't even fit me anymore though and I don't know what to do with my weight. I do still exercise a lot. I don't know if muscle rises underneath loose skin and makes clothes tighter or how that even goes. I just wanna be healthy and look fit.

The scale does not provide all the answers, when one either gains or loses a lot of weight. The scale tells you what you weigh, not what your body is composed of.

You would need to have your body fat measured and determine if your body fat percentage, is in the healthy range.

When it comes to losing weight, anyone who loses more than 1-2 pounds per week, is losing some water weight, as the body is 70% fluid by weight. If you gained a lot of weight, for it to be mostly muscle mass, you would need to be doing some pretty serious weight training.

The heavier you are, the more calories you burn. As you shrink, you have to adjust. Change up your exercise. Eat MORE food. I know that sounds wrong, but you need to keep the furnace going. Instead of skipping whole days of eating, skip one meal and eat the bulk of your calories in one or two meals.

Insulin and other hormones control weight. If you cut your insulin spikes by eating no more than twice a day, youll lose weight.

As a general rule, the heavier you are the more calories you burn, unless much of the weight is fat. Muscle is active and requires energy to maintain. Fat is not nearly as biologically active and does not require calories to maintain and or physical activity, like muscle.

Totally agree. That's why the best course of action is to build lean muscle.

Yes, but never really understood how to use it. And nowadays I really don't eat a lot of nuts.

And I have not being any serious weight training. I just do regular basic exercise.

Oh it's important to keep well lubricated, especially in the summer months.

Wow it seems I've already lost about 7 pounds in a week when I done some more harder exercise than usual...Just letting you guys know.
Some of that will be water loss. Because a pound of fat contains 3500 calories. 7 x 3500 = 24500 calories that you need to burn off... above what your eating.

But a massive well done too! Because you must have worked really hard and some will be fatloss. You'll feel much fitter and stronger too.

I had the scary situation a few months ago of not being able to get any blood out for a blood test. I mean no blood, not even any body fluid. They poked and twisted and poked again...nothing. Not a drop. I told them to call me "Turnip." I was vampire-proof.

But that did shake me up and I upped my daily water intake to 120 ounces a day, including 30 ounces during the night. Interestingly, my frequency of urination did not change. But my energy level increased, some skin problems went away.
