  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do I know if I'm gaining weight from muscle and exercising a lot or system shock..

Some of that will be water loss. Because a pound of fat contains 3500 calories. 7 x 3500 = 24500 calories that you need to burn off... above what your eating.

But a massive well done too! Because you must have worked really hard and some will be fatloss. You'll feel much fitter and stronger too.

I've been burning about 500 calories per day in the last week, but now nothing! I went all the way down from 161 to 153 and now my weight just keeps fluctuating back from 155 to 157. And just to let you know many times I only eat a small cup of cereal for breakfast and a sandwich for dinner and then I'm done for the day. So I shouldn't even be gaining that much weight anymore, but it just won't stop. I think it may be my antidepressants.

I didn't wanna mention that at first, because I don't like sharing that information with just everyone. My fiance's mother is taking me to the doctor this month though and I'm having him get him get me off of those antidepressants. I'm also going to see if he can measure out how much of me is muscle, how much is fat, and how much is water to make sure that it's not any of those. Luckily I caught her when I could to take me.

I'm on a diet at the moment. I'm not eating enough. 700-1000 calories a day most days. (I don't condone it, I am eating three meals a day but not having rice, bread, pasta, potatoes. Lots of vegetables, salad, fruit with a little salmon, orawns, chicken or hummous. Porridge and beans etc, lots of spinach too. So I'm not actually hungry... I do not recommend it for others at all!) It has taken me 11 weeks to lose 11 pounds. I am finally no longer overweight.

On top of so few calories I was:
Spending 6 hours in the gym split between 2 days each week
Swimming a kilometer on a thursday, walking at least 14000 steps a day.
Playing tennis a couple times a weeķ.
My 3 year old's swim lessons which involve a lot of lifting.
Fortnightly bike rides.
Rock climbing every 2 weeks for an 1.5-2 hours.

However, for me there is a reason why I can't lose weight easily. My thyroid is underactive. I am on medication but still struggle to lose weight.

So I empathise with you. That is why I think that you ought to go to the doctor. Sometimes they don't pick up on a problem easily. I put on weight when I was 20. It was my adrenal glands causing that. It came of once I was off blood pressure medication. I was on it for 3 months to reset my adrenal glands.

I hope that you're ok and that your body starts playing ball soon.

My primary doctor could check that right? I mean I am going to see him soon now.

I Doubt it.

Body fat measurements are typically performed in fitness related environments. The gold standard is hydrostatic weighing, but that requires a dunk tank and are typically only found in human performance labs. Next best, is body fat measurements using calipers and if the person is trained well, they will give you an accurate number.
