How do I know if I'm gaining weight from muscle and exercising a lot or system shock..

..from eating such low calories in the past 2 or 3 years? How do I know which one it really is? Because, I mean I do exercise a lot now a days. I've walked for 5 and 10 miles at a time too, but I've put on nearly 40 pounds over the past year and even when I ate small I gain weight. It's not my Thyroid, because I just had it checked. As far as fasting though I had only went about a day for dieting. I really need to know how to fix my body right now and I'm not always able to get to a doctor. I was just lucky the other day, since my fiance's mother took me and she's usually really sick herself. My fiance is working on getting his car towed and we don't have a lot of money right. My smaller clothes don't even fit me anymore though and I don't know what to do with my weight. I do still exercise a lot. I don't know if muscle rises underneath loose skin and makes clothes tighter or how that even goes. I just wanna be healthy and look fit.

Try cleansing. Do some real fasting for a time and clear your gut. Then drink green tea; as much as you want.

The reason I say this is what you should do is because the reason we gain or lose weight is actually a hormonal response. If our hormones are not doing what's right then we can't change our weight no matter how much we try.

Resetting your system through fasting and then drinking green tea will clear out the plastics in your body that are blocking your hormone receptors and causing you to be pudgy. Cleanse yourself and then make sure you are not drinking from plastic water bottles or using plastic to encase your food and make sure that you are eating as much green material as possible (collards, swiss chard, spinach and kale). This will continue to grab onto the plastics in your system and continue to cleanse you while you eat food. But eat good healthy food and eat as much as you need to have good energy.

The best way to exercise to lose stomach weight is aerobics.
I still have a bit of a pot belly, it was very big, but my weight stays the same now as I build muscle
My choice.
A treadmill is best or walking outside to lose weight
the weight starts to come off after you start sweating and continues to come off while sweating
Drink lots of water, especially while working out.
stop lifting weights altogether
Each muscle you gain is weight gained
And the stomach won't disappear if you keep gaining muscle

There are online calorie counters. This is just one. Try calculating your calories. Then go maybe 100-200 calories under the daily recommended amount for a time. Don't go too too far under the daily amount though.

It sounds like you've done it all but something is not right
Part of the story is missing, maybe you aren't aware of it
Snacks at night?
Slimfast?
Consistency
Even meals and exercise weekly
Up and down does nothing

I've lost 150 pounds in nearly 7 months just cutting sugar and carbs from my diet. I've added intermittent fasting, eating only two meals per day. It's not always how much you eat, but WHAT you eat as well. You can gain 20 pounds in waterweight.

Well I love vegetables and fruits as well as green tea. So naturally I eat healthy and exercise. I also eat and drink lots of diet based things and I do my best to pick on the healthiest ones. So I don't know what's going wrong.

Well I got tired of the weights after a week and now I mostly just walk outside or use a machine to walk on.

It took me 2 years to lose 80-90 pounds and now to be gaining it back makes me feel really bad, since sometimes I did want to splurge on fatty foods I ate less of it for each meal. So it made the meal smaller and I only ate once or twice a day. And I would end up becoming dehydrated every time I tried to watch my water level and people would say "You need more water!"

You can dig with a spoon to make a well or you can use a shovel. Just because you are digging to lose weight doesn't mean you are doing it with the right level of intensity to get results.

You never said anything about fasting. Fasting will reset your system if you do it long enough. I recommend trying a full week if you can but if you can't for work then try the intermittent fasting but you'll have to do it a much longer time to get the same result. ( the spoon versus the shovel )

Just because you exercise doesn't mean you exercise with enough intensity to get any results.

Well to be honest I snacked when I was first ever dieting too. It never effected anything until now and I don't know why it waits until now to start backfiring. I haven't been eating extra or more than I usually had. So it shouldn't really be doing anything. I always tried to eat a healthy amount and then have a splurging amount on the unhealthy foods. I eat them in moderacy.

It is not just calorie intake , but what foods you are eating and if you are getting the nutrition you need - Protein is absolutely required , have protein during and within 45 minutes of your workouts - you absolutely need some workout routine- THAT is what builds muscle . If you do not cause your muscles to extend and contract beyond sitting , standing and some walking you won't build muscle , you be lucky if you can sustain what you have .

What is known as Strength and Resistance training is what you need to add to your lifestyle 2 to 3 days a week for a , minimum of 20 minutes to an hour each time as you need to increase heart rate and reach a sweat .
Use barbells and dumbbells , jump rope , if you cannot go to a gym get a Total Gym that uses your own body weight for the resistance and is very versatile .
Stay away from simple carbs and eat complex carbs , eat sweet potatoes and yams , eggs and veggies including root veggies ,
Walking is good cardio and good for the heart but will not be effective in weight lose or building muscle , when you build muscle you will reduce the fat index and your ratio of muscle to fat will increase muscle and reduce fat
To build muscle you need to push it beyond the limits you normally do otherwise it will not grow . Muscle is very important and it requires protein to build muscle -
Products like Muscle Feast Whey Protein Isolate is a very high quality of whey protein isolate - protein isolate is the purest form of protein - great for absorption after and during a workout
Make sure the foods you eat are not processed foods as those products trick the body into thinking it needs to slow down metabolism
Stay away from anything that has "diet" on it's name - such as diet coke or diet yogurt - they are low calorie but cause the body to retain fat - they are unhealthy
Learn about the 'ketone zone it is a good method of fasting

Drink more filtered water
have steel cut oatmeal
eat cottage cheese as a evening snack as it has good protein that digests slowly and holds off hunger

Just a few things that will get you where you want to be :)

Actually I did mention fasting, but I mentioned that as far as I've went on fasting was a day at a time like in a week or something. Then I start to get hunger pains and I ate.

Weight is just a number, to some extent.

What really matters is what the mirror says.

Gaining muscle should result in a maintenance of your overall fitness, or an improvement in it. Forty pounds is a lot of muscle to put on in one year, though.

Well I never drink tap water. At least not anymore. I hate it and of course I love oatmeal.

What are some more foods that are processed though?

I wish my fiance would stop trying to feed me junk food and whenever I tell him no he makes it seem like he thinks I'm starving myself or something. Then he gets annoyed. He said he would force feed me if he had to.

So it's probably fat then? I mean I was like 120 something last year and I'm like 150 something now. Are my clothes supposed to getting tight because, of the muscle built from it? I used to be a size 4-6 in pants for example.

Most everything that is a boxed meal on a shelf , packaged meats like you see on a shelf in a grocery store , most deli meats , try to eat foods that are fresh like veggies , fruits , fresh cut meats , limit your bread intake to small portions only a couple times a week

Yes, cutting back on breads was always something I did, but once I got down to my goal weight I would just eat breads a couple of days in the week and then eat healthy at the last of the week or something to measure it out. That worked. It really did and I never changed how much I ate of each, but I'm still gaining weight in the end. I just don't get it. I ate a lot of salads and fruit. I even ate Salmon.

The heavier you are, the more calories you burn. As you shrink, you have to adjust. Change up your exercise. Eat MORE food. I know that sounds wrong, but you need to keep the furnace going. Instead of skipping whole days of eating, skip one meal and eat the bulk of your calories in one or two meals.

Insulin and other hormones control weight. If you cut your insulin spikes by eating no more than twice a day, youll lose weight.

Well last I checked I was 157, but I wanna be like 120 again. If done the right way I could even get back to that by the end of this year. I mean I used to be able to lose 10 pounds in a month.
