It is like the Lord's prayer says. Forgive us our transgressions even as we have forgiven those who transgressed against us.
If we don't automatically forgive then neither does the Lord act like that towards us. Forgiving doesn't mean we don't mind the sin/offence against us but rather that we grow in His love and not in the bad life other people push on us sinning against us.
Forgiving the other their sins sets us free to love unconditionally like He does! Forgiving those who sin against us transforms us in His likeness and such is worth everything to posses.
