Where'd the "Name it, Claim it" teaching come from? it's essentially the same thing as WoF.

It is the same thing...Hagin had a formula, "Say it, do it, receive it, tell it."

well baptists and pentecostals all study out of the same books at seminary so it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't know about that...I know quite a few Baptists that are cessationists...and I can't think of any Pentecostals I know that believe in OSAS.

I think it is in what Baptists and Pentecostals have in common you'll see what i mean, A friend of mine who went to a Pentecostal Seminary brought up the idea when i mentioned the similarities between them.

If you ignore the ideas expressed and examine the behavior they almost mirror one another actually.

Who was Hagin?

Kenneth Erwin Hagin (August 20, 1917 - September 19, 2003) was an influential American Pentecostal preacher. He is often referred to as the "father" (or "granddaddy") of the "Word of Faith" movement. Many of his followers often refer to him affectionately as "Dad Hagin" or "Pappa Hagin".

Oh, I know Pentecostals have a lot in common with Baptists...sometimes Pentecostals joke that Assemblies of God is pretty much Baptist with a tambourine...we do have a lot of differences as well.

Of course, I can't speak for all Pentecostal denominations...and there are some Classical Pentecostal denoms that don't even consider mine to be classical even though we've been around longer than they have...I'm looking at everything from a Pentecostal Holiness perspective...which would be more closely aligned with the Nazarenes or Wesleyans than it would Baptists.

I think that's one thing many fail to understand...saying "I'm Pentecostal" is like saying "I'm Protestant." There are so many different denominations within Pentecostalism that it's impossible to lump us all together. My denomination is separated from the AoG because we believe in entire sanctification...AoG is separated from the UPC because the UPC is Oneness...and on and on.

Wof is not Pentecostal or Charaismatic. That is not to say their leaders weren't at one time Pentecostal or Charaismatic. BTW those 2 are not the same thing. They're related yes. It also doesn't mean that the leaders of Wof lack chraisma. That doesn't make them Charismatic by any streach. I'm very sure they would like you to belive that they are though. One of the chief reasons I no longer associate with the movement they originated out of.

Well, i remember being taught in a pentecostal/charismatic setting i guess over a decade ago when "name it, claim it" was the big thing in my circles, so i will probably always associate its origin from there, but would believe it's children would have separated since .

Nope they don't have exclusive rights to that part of the Bible nor are they the only ones that use it.

i was just asking if that questionable interpretation originated from pentecostals . but if not, maybe i'll start another thread .. how damaging is ..

i mean, the one most obsessed with a Jezebel Spirit is usually a perfect example of a person who has one .

WOF is a spinoff from pentecostal denominations and often most pentecostal pastors and elders often fall into WOF trap. Only discerned pastors and elders know how to prevent WOF's false doctrines from coming into their churches. As many know that most pentecostals do not practice discernment.

Dad Hagin as he is referred to by Wofers is considered the founding father of the movement. He would be the equivalent of what EGW is to the SDA.

Actually, one of the first proponents of Word of Faith was E. W. Kenyon and Kenneth Hagin was heavily influenced by Kenyon’s writings. Hagin has been referred to as the “father” of the modern Word of Faith movement.

Please bring forward the wolves AND the godly teachers in the movement and lets critically examine their respective teachings in the light of day.

Dr.Strangelove: Okay...I'll bite. "Godly teachers"? The Apostle Peter. "Respective teachings"? Will this suffice?

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (Acts 2:1-47)

Let me know what you find wrong with that, okay? Thanks.

Take care.

Wof was an infant in the lat 60's and very wide spread by mid 70's. Hagin was known as dad Hagin by 74. I grew up in the AoG and learned from their schools and books. By 75 I knew it was a fraud. It had me very mixed up till at least mid 80's.

Take care.

The wheat field will always hav tares in it (Titus 1:16). In discernment, we are to be looking at the differences between sowing seeds verses pulling weeds. "Tares" were known as a weedy grass. Tares represents unbelievers (also false teachers) that Christians are in the world to be a good influence for the tares. EACH ONE of us who is now wheat was once tares.

The difference we need to see when we are looking at the word "tares". There's unbelievers and there's evil. Jesus said in Matthew 13:38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

God sows believers in the world, and Satan oversows his own children in the world. The world, then, is inhabited by both subjects of the King and subjects of the Enemy, who is the devil himself. In Matthew 13:25, remember when Jesus talked of the enemy who came and sowed tares among the wheat, Jesus used a very strong term that indicates that Satan has sowed his people everywhere. Earlier in Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus warned of false teachers who claim to have done good works for Jesus, but the Lord says to them, "...depart from Me.......". The issue is not the soil; rather, it is the condition of the soil. That means that all people could receive the seed. All soil could receive the seed if it was broken up and cleaned of weeds.

While it is true that we are to be careful of how we "pull" the weeds because they are so close to the wheat, that if you try to pull out the darnels you'll root up the wheat with them. We have to remember that Jesus said that weeds did not belong in the field and that in the end they were going to be burned up. All we need to do is tell others about false teachings but only God can pull them out if their hearts are willing to acknowledge between truth and false.
