Immediately, the Catholic/papal representative demands the floor. He is out of order, but the Chair wishes to begin on an evangelical note and so permits it. The Catholic states: "I'm infallible. When I speak, Jesus speaks. I am the sole authority here, I am the sole voice here, and whatever I teach in matters of faith are correct and if you disagree, you are wrong and a heretic. Does any have any questions?"
A silence falls over the room; you could hear a pin drop. Then the Orthodox representative (still near the podium from the opening prayer) leans over and says, "told 'ya."
The Baptist motions that the Council adjourn. The motion is seconded and passes. And all file out of the room, go back to their rooms, pack, check out and go home.
IMMEDIATELY,
What really amazes me is the claim to infallibility, and at the same time admitting that the RCC church failed.
It has everything to do with truth.
Haven't you read your bible.
You tell a tree by it's fruit.
Your claims of being "the church" fall down short then.
For a good tree can not bear bad fruit.
As Jesus says.
Considering the amount of thread on denominations and Catholacism, what can be done within Christianity to reconcile the main 3 sects of Christianity, primarily Orthodox, RC and Protestant.
Throw out a few ideas. Thanks
I have been praying for that for yearsHow can the three reconcile? Prayer. And lots of it.
Easy throw out denominational labels and then fall under the truth which is taught in reformed theology. How can the three reconcile? Prayer. And lots of it.
The theology of JESUS?whose reformed theology?
Jesuswhose reformed theology?
In other words, in the eyes of God the sins of our leaders do not automatically nullify or eject them from their spiritual office.
So how does making up cute stories about dialogue between Christians (which don't reflect what actually happens in those dialogues) and then repeating them help the situation ? In fact, it makes real dialogue - which is not necessarily easy, granted - less possible by ingraining bias.
Its part of the problem in GT. We can't have real discussions because every discussion is already polluted by the polluted ground in which the opportunity for discussion occurs.
Though commendation from God is necessary, alone it is not a guarantee of our leaders' fidelity or holiness.
For example, even among the twelve apostles Judas "was numbered among us, and was allotted his share in this ministry" and yet "Satan entered into Judas" who then "became a traitor" (Acts 1:17, Luke 22:3, Luke 6:16). When God permits bad shepherds to linger we should follow the path of patience, and sometimes suffering (1st Peter 2:19-23), that Jesus taught concerning such "wicked servants" (Matthew 24:48):
3 so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice."
Put differently, our spiritual leaders are spiritual fathers to us (1st Corinthians 4:15, 1st Thessalonians 2:11, Philemon 1:10) and so should they ever become wicked, they should still be given the same respectful restraint and defensive obedience that Scripture commands even for wicked parents. Once God has commended a leader, even should the leader turn evil, God often continues to use such a leader on account of the spiritual office bestowed. For example, besides the example of Judas Iscariot, consider the lesson regarding the wicked high-priest Caiaphus:
John 11:49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to the chief priests and Pharisees, "You know nothing at all;In other words, in the eyes of God the sins of our leaders do not automatically nullify or eject them from their spiritual office.
50 you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man [Jesus] should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish."
51 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation,
Hi squint. Do ya mind making the fonts a little smaller on this thread? Reminds me too much of another poster's cut and paste quotes. Thanks
Yes. I sometimes feel I am trying to climb up a hill covered with ice while barefoot......I would appreciate if you made yours bigger so I could read them better...
The first complaint that people are led to make when they don't like to hear what someone else has to say is to complain about font size or color content.
The next is to claim some sort of emotional content on the poster based on their own perceptions when there may be little if any at all with the poster.
Eventually it works its way down to calling people heretics
...and to eventually claim that they are demonically possessed.
So you are on the slippery slope lloj...
LOL!!!!! The same tired arguments and whines.
It reminds me of what Jesus told the apostles when they asked Him who the greatest apostle is.
Mark 9
33 Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. 35 And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.”
I can't wait to see how our actions play out when we get to heaven.
Also, when are we all just going to realize that we are merely at His mercy and what comes out of our mouths is what convicts us?
