As many have already said, there is no formula for a healing. And God doesn't always act to our desires or our requests. He can take a unilateral decision all on His own!!

I received a healing back in 1997 when I wasn't even expecting it! I had an arthritic knee which my doc said needed surgery. Coincidentally, I went to a Christian conference shortly after but had a lot of trouble negotiating stairs and stuff because of the knee. The first session, when the worship began and all the youth rushed down into the aisles to dance, I was sitting because of the knee when I 'heard' this voice telling me to kneel! Well, I knew I couldn't possibly do that, far too painful! And, of course, God would understand - I'd been telling myself that for months. But the voice spoke again. Still I resisted. Then it said 'if you don't get on your knees to me, I won't hear you anymore!'

I sort of thought 'oops!' and got on my knees at once amongst all the dancing youngsters - it was a bit like kneeling in a cattle pen with them all pogo-ing about!! The pain from my knee was awful but I knelt anyway and then started to weep. Then suddenly the pain just disappeared! Just like that! I was able to get to my feet without even putting a hand to the floor. Hadn't been able to do that for months!!!!

When I saw my doc again, she confirmed that all evidence of arthritis was gone and was mystified when I told her what had happened, simply saying, 'I'll take it anyway it comes!'

One thing I must tell you - I'm a theatre nurse and my speciality is orthopaedic surgery so I was the very last person to be able to accept a spontaneous healing of arthritis like this - my natural self still argues against it.

But nothing is impossible for God! Hear that? NOTHING!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your input. I have heard that I should beleive and give it to God... but I get it, but I don't get it. What do I have to do? What is beleiving? Beleiving that if this very second if I looked it wouldn't be there anymore? Or not even having to look becuase I KNOW it isn't there anymore?

Well, I was just now re-reading through some of the above listed scriptures and I was trying to look up Hebrews 10:23, but I accidentally forgot to hit the 0 and I came up with this scripture.

Hebrews 1:8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, a prisoner for his sake, but by God's power accept your share of suffering for the gospel.

I started thinking... am I supposed to bare this burden for a reason?

Ask yourself this, " Is God glorified by my suffering?" I wouldn't think so. Not only that, it's also bad for "recruitment". That scripture reffers to people, and the powers of darkness coming against you for preaching the gospel. The good news is however many afflictions you suffer, God will deliver you from them all! Praise God!

That's exactly what the devil wants you to think.

NO!

The suffering for the Gospel is NOT sickness and disease. It is the persecution you will receive when you take a stand for the Gospel. People, even some Christians, will persecute you, call you names, try to discourage your faith, etc. People will hate you for proclaiming the good news. That is what the scripture in Hebrews is refering to.

Jesus NEVER ONCE stated that we would have to endure sickness and disease, but He stated repeatedly that we would have to endure persecution and suffering for the Gospel's sake.

jlaw,
do you by chance have neurodermatitis?
at any rate, i have info for you... truly God does want you well and healed, He does-ok.
secondly, a lot of diseases have a spiritual root, and when that is truly dealt with healing comes. of course faith is the main thing. because many diseases are rooted in fear, which is the opposite of faith. believe me, i deal with many fears. but God is helping me.
my resource here is pastor henry wrights book a more excellent way. and what he teaches is biblical. i have been healed of depression and am being healed of anxiety because of what i've learned from him.
he says that neurodermatitis is a rooted in anxiety, mental tension and emotional disturbances. caused by fear, anxiety and stress.
so here is what i would do if i were you. i would pray to God in Jesus name and ask Him to show you what are you afraid of. and when He does, you repent and ask Him to bind the enemy from operating in your life anymore because you have repented. then you ask God to speak to you and heal your heart. then you are quiet and listen and see what else He tells you. you just keep doing this type of prayer whenever you need to. believe me i have to do it a lot. there are many many different fears and He will show you as you are ready to hear it. sometimes we have to pray about the same thing over again until it is dealt with. don't give up. i don't know if i can give websites out or not but if you want pastor henry's website just pm me and i'll give it to you, ok? many ppl have been healed, even of "incurable"diseases, after learning what he teaches and dealing with their heart issues before God.
i know this is hard stuff but if you are desperate you'll be willing to do it. God bless you brother.

Jlaw,

When you read a scripture and you immediately believe it, it's usually mental assent. You're intelligent; you can read; and you can understand the words, but the spirit operates on a completely different level than the mind.

Those words must get into your spirit and become more real to you than the natural, and if you have symptoms screaming in your face, this can be difficult.

But if you read and re-read and re-read the scriptures, even if you already have them memorized, they will eventually get down into your spirit and your spirit man will begin to build some muscle and start rising up to take his rightful place over your flesh (mind, will, body, emotions). Faith WILL come. Faith ALWAYS comes when you follow the instructions in the Word: Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

That book I mentioned in my first post in this thread: Your Life Follows Your Words, by Darlene Bishop, has a wonderful "decree" in it. It might help you, too. You can make your decree, according to Job 22:28 (Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways) and then read the scriptures out loud several times a day.

I would love to give the whole thing here, but it's copyrighted material, so I will try to get permission to print it on this forum.

To Jlaw....please consider these words of probinson quite seriously....suffering physical affliction is not suffering for the gospel...Jesus bore your infimities and carried your diseases on the cross and I wouldn't let anyone tell you different.

Well... I don't know the name of it but I have this disease... it is like a bacteria that grows on your skin. It is sort of like a rash except it doesn't go away. It is slowly growing throughout my whole body. They say that soon it will eat the skin off of my fingernails and my fingernails will fall off. The doctors say that there is no cure for this, the only thing you can do is make it look a little bit better. Well, i'm getting tired of having this disease and I know that no medicine can cure it... I've been prayed for before but it still didn't go away. I don't know what to do... I was hoping that you guys may be able to help me.

Well, it looks like, from reading this thread, that all you have to do to be healed is agree with faith-healing proof-texts. And, when that doesn’t work, which it frequently doesn’t, don’t ask why it didn’t work. You will just be quoted more proof-text to say it does (even when it is obvious it didn’t) and then will have the blame for your lingering illness thrown back on your own lack of faith. But you will never be told how to correct your faith to meet God’s requirements. Your “physicians” can only diagnose the problem, not prescribe the cure (except, of course, for the dozen-or-so proof-texts)

I would say, simply trust God. Period. Trust is a facet of faith you are not being taught in this thread (so far). Trust is that passive form of faith that leaves things in God’s hands. Trust God’s wisdom; not just His power and don’t miss God’s face while you are seeking His hand. He may be working something more important out in you before He ever heals you. Whatever you do, don’t miss that.

And even if He were to never heal you, you need to learn that His grace, not His healing, is sufficient for you (1 Cor. 12.9) and, as Job said, even if healing never happens in this life you still need to trust Him (Job 13.15). There is more, much more, to God’s grace than your immediate comfort or merely feeling physically better (and when do we ever really feel our best?) Don’t miss what God is saying to you in your present distress (and surely there is a lot more He wants you to know than just the faith-healing proof-texts you have been given).

There is infinitely so much more to God and His Gospel than your immediate physical well-being. If all you are asking from God is that He removes the temporal pain you just might miss something more eternally important that He is trying to teach you. As they say, get your attention off the healing and on the Healer and off the body and on the spirit.

I will pray for your miraculous healing, of course, but I will also pray just as fervently that you will hear God's voice in the midst of it all.

Sincerely,
~Brighton Earley

To answer your question, I'll just tell you how I received my own healing.

After receiving diagnosis from the doctor that I had an incurable eye disease, I knew that I was going to be putting to work the teaching that I had received on healing. So, I focused my attention on doing just that.

I already knew that God could heal me. Most Christians have no problem with that, and will readily agree to such a statement.

But to convince myself that it was God's will to heal me, and to heal me, now, not in some far off future, I knew that I had to immerse myself in the scriptures.

I needed to see how Jesus dealt with sickness. I marked, and read over and over and over every place where someone came to Jesus, asking Him to heal them.

I prayed that, as I studied these scriptures, the Holy Spirit would give me revelation and speak to me personally about my own situation in relation to what I was reading. I kept this up and the Holy Spirit lead, strengthened, and opened up the Word to me and made it personal.

The "Word of God is Spirit and it is life". I knew that I was feeding my spirit on true substance of life, when I gave myself to study and meditate on those scriptures. Something was happening in me whether I felt it or not.

The "Word is a light to my feet, a lamp to my path". I knew that it would guide and direct me. I also knew that "God always leads us in the triumps of Christ Jesus". I also knew that He promised to "strengthen me" and to "never forsake me". I was not on my own, but had the Holy Spirit and His power within me.

There finally came the day that the 'light' of God's Word had dispelled the 'darkness' of doubt in my mind and heart. I just knew that I knew that I knew, that I was healed. No outward evidence told me that, the inner witness of faith was the evidence that I had my healing. The outward evidence came shortly after this point.

So, Jlaw, give due diligence to God's Word where He shows you how Jesus handled sickness. Soak yourself in these scriptures. "Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life."

I will be glad to add my faith to yours at any time. But first spend some time doing what I have suggested, as there are two parts to healing - God's part, giving and - our part, receiving. We know this because when Jesus went to his own hometown, He couldn't heal many because of their unbelief. Read that also.

One more thing, healing is one part of our inheritance of being 'in Christ'. Just as God gave the Israelites the land of Canaan as their inheritance, they first had to dispossess the enemies off the land and take it by force. So, you too, will have to dispossess the enemies of doubt, discouragement, outward evidence to the contrary, people's discourageing report, unbelief, etc. Therefore put on the armour described in Ephes. 6 and set your heart like flint to fight the good fight of faith.

If you know someone or a church, with the will to stand with you on this and they have a proven track record of either healing the sick or receiving their own healing, ask them to stand with you. I will be glad to do so, also.

Put this disease under the feet of Jesus, where it belongs. Make it give glory to God for the great things He has done. Demonstrate to the powers and principalities of the air, that our God reigns and that we reign in life with him (Rom 5:17).

You have this right and blessing not through your own goodness or holiness, but simply as a joint-heir of Christ Jesus. It's yours through faith.

I will be glad to help you in any way you need. Just pm me. I'll pray for you every step of the way.

God bless.

so here is pastor henry's website: www.pleasantvalleychurch.net

That's an amazing place. My own personal friends who have received healings while attending the class there have been set free from bi-polar, deviated septum, herpes, allergies, asthma, heart disease, rhematoid arthris, skin diseases, etc. etc. etc. Talk about a fun week!

There's nothing cooler than seeing someone who shows up allergic to peanuts who can eat peanuts by the end of the week! God is so Cool!!
