  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The title is pretty self-evident.

Note: if you are to suggest that it will change my after-life, please first provide proof that such after-life exists (in exactly the way you imagine it to be). When such proof is presented to me, I will gladly acknowledge the after-life as being part of my "life" and therefore part of the question.

This is not a loaded question and I'm eager to hear any response somebody is willing to give. While it's not loaded, be prepared for me to respond given my own life experiences thus far (and I intend to answer honestly).
Okay. I'll answer your question with one of my own. How can atheism change my life? I'll even answer it for you. I would earn the ire of most of my friends, as they are mainly Christians, I would lose the long-term perspective I hold on most things, and I would be free to do what I wish without self-imposed or religion-imposed morality constraints. Eventually, my perspective on things would shift.

I've never been violent with people and have never gotten into a fight. And I never plan on it. If I ever do get into a fight it will be to defend somebody innocent and that's it.

I don't require a "moral father" to watch over everything I do in order to act like a compassionate human being.

Thats the thing, before you posted your original post you sound have already made your mind up and rejected Christs teachings.

That is ok and biblical It says in the bible a few times that not all will follow or are chosen. Somebody must be excluded from salvation. I guess your it.

If you have chosen not to believe I respect that as I would hope anyone would respect my choice to believe.

Back to my analogy and what I meant before many people in life have benefited from Jesus teachings even if not christian. - read some Dale Carnegie books. One of the most famous relationship books there is quotes jesus quite a few times.

Sounds fairly Christian to me.
normally I would never say anything like I did above but I really felt led to. I am not a everything is black and white Christian except for one thing where it is that way.

Imagine you are going to board a ferry at a wharf. Having one foot on the wharf and one on the ferry does not help you much when the ferry departs it certainly does not make one a passenger in the ferry.

It is also the same with accepting and understanding Jesus. His legacy he left us is a complete package. He gave us the keys to the door so we may enter to be with the father. Salvation and abundant life here on earth come from accepting Jesus salvation and teachings in full.

By abundant life I do not mean it in a monetary way I mean it in an enriching of ones spirit, a liberating freedom from the shackles of guilt and the burden of wrongdoings we carry. The emptiness inside gets filled too. That "I am alone" emptiness and loneliness goes away.

Jesus is the son of God who died in our place as atonement for sin. He deserves all respect.

He died and rose to life again and is alive now.

If you are genuine, you'll be persecuted for your faith, called names in your face and behind your back, ridiculed for believing the Truth which the world rejects.

You'll lose some friends and family. Some will be warned of your 'oddity' and stay away. Others will directly confront you and ask questions, knowing the answers they will get so they can have a fresh cause to mock you.

You'll spend a lot of time in prayer for other people. You'll have a constant burden in your heart for the lost, that they will be told of the good news which can save them, and your heart will break when you see fellow brothers fall into deception and refuse freedom, exchanging the cross for acceptance of others, or for other causes, such as the flag.

When you sin, you'll know it and it will nag at you until you seek forgivness. The weight of sin on your life will be a great difficulty, simply because you are now capable of feeling that weight, being made alive. A dead man can feel no such weight. Lay 500 pounds across your chest and the same weight across the chest of the corpse, and see who struggles with the weight. It won't be the dead man, I assure you.

But its such a small price to pay, for so great a gain.
