Since my last housing related post, we've decided to move forward with an earth covered home design. One of my design goals is to avoid using traditional forced air type AC/ heating in favor of a windtower and qanat/ earthtube design for cooling & some sort of woodburner for heat in the main (open floorplan) area of the house. As our existing house no longer has functional heat, we've been using electric oil radiators to keep bedrooms warm & would migrate those to the new house. . . so I am only really concerned with heating the main living area; living room/dining/kitchen & want to incorporate the ability to cook sans electricity if needs be.
So what advice do ya'll have regarding wood burners for heat & secondary cooking?
