Quick question for those who are interested:

I was thinking to myself today, as I was reading the last book in the Bourne series, about religious buildings and how they sometimes change hands. Through the past two thousand years churches have become mosques, pagan meeting areas have become churches, and vice versa. Even the Temple has become Dome of the Rock.

I know from experience and study that christianity never had a problem with assimilating people and buildings. The thought that really struck me was that Islam did/does the same thing.

As I think back through Tanakh history, the commandment of G-d was always to remove the false idols, false altars and so forth. I understand that Israel was not always faithful in this at the most expedient of time, but throughout history this came into being.

The following question is primarily for Muslims: does the assimilation of non-Islamic buildings ever bother you? Would it not be better to demolish and build afresh? I'm interested in any and all thoughts.

Thanks,

m.d.
