House Democrats Unveil Articles of Impeachment Against Trump
House Democrats announced on Tuesday that they would move ahead this week with two articles of impeachment charging President Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, as they accused him of violating the Constitution by pressuring Ukraine for help in the 2020 election.

Speaking from a wood-paneled reception room just off the floor of the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and leaders of six key committees said that Mr. Trump’s actions toward Ukraine, and his efforts to block Congress’s attempt to investigate, had left them no choice but to pursue one of the Constitution’s gravest remedies. The move will bring a sitting president to the brink of impeachment for only the fourth time in American history.

So they decided not to charge him with bribery despite the strong evidence of that?

It will be interesting to see how much say the Republicans had in omitting the charge that started all this.
It takes 66 senators to convict therefore assuming all the demcrocats and two independents vote to impeach they would still need several republics on board with it. There are 53 Republicans 45 Democrats and two independants assuming that all the latter voted to impeach they would still need 19 Republicans to come along with it.

Even if the Senate is too corrupt to remove the president, it is important to impeach the leader of this regime.
but even so unless he is convicted he STILL has the right to run, so what happens if he is reelected?

It takes 67, not 66. (Two thirds of 100 equals 66.6% so they have to round up.)

Congress does not need a single Republican vote to impeach him.

He won't be re-elected. When over half of Americans want the man to be removed from office, there is no chance he will win the popular vote on his second attempt.

Congress does not need a single Republican vote to impeach him.
so then in that case the senate would need 20 Republicans to join the Democrats and the two independents (this assumes that the democrats and indeendants all vote to remove him from office.

I have two threads on ths we shall see. He was not supposed to win the first time. The states ( last I checked do not have enough to make the popular vote what matters.

Voters in swing states oppose Trump being impeached. How will acquittal in the Senate HELP the Democrats?

How will having ZERO Republicans voting for impeachment show that this isn't a partisan effort?

But the impeachment itself will make voters not want to vote for him.

I agree.

Trump won't win the popular vote in 2020. So what. Trump lost the popular vote by millions in 2016.

He won't be re-elected. When over half of Americans want the man to be removed from office, there is no chance he will win the popular vote on his second attempt.

Obviously the Republicans are crying foul it is a partisan effort just because they know Trump is guilty, so there is nothing to defend, as all evidence proves he must be impeached, unless they choose to ignore all the accurate news sources that have no conservative biases. We know this because of what Repubhlicans did: they blocked access to the proof that Trump is guilty, ignored subpoeans, and actually were involved in the scandal.

There is NO reason to prioritize swing state polls over all NATIONWIDE polls. All unbiased nationwide polls consistantly show a majorioty of voters WANT Trump to be impeached and removed.

They cited the entire clause, "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" in both articles. Presumably Trump's actions could fall under Bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Of course. I just thought bribery would be listed separately as a third article of impeachment.

And has been the case since the beginning, only 3 articles have every been considered (except by the far left of the party). The "debate" was with regard to third article of "Obstruction Of Justice" which would basically have included Volume II of the Mueller Report as backup.

Pelosi decided to have very narrow charges for which no witnesses are needed for impeachment, just the president's statements and transcripts. The testimony in the House was very short, a minimal effort, and all that was needed.

And, yes, Pelosi won a few Democratic votes by approving Trump's prize trade deal. Of course, she got lots of changes, but the president doesn't care. Trump has a major, major victory.

Of course. I just thought bribery would be listed separately as a third article of impeachment.
