Is there any horse lovers out there if yes explain what type you have and what kind of things you do with your horse i.e show jumpinn etc etc

I love horses. i have one black quarter horse mare and i do english, no showing. Actually i have another horse, she is a chestnut quarter horse mare, but unfortuanty she is very old and sick so we will have to put her to sleep. she is in a lot of pain.

I Love horses a lot, I've trained horses for 6 years.
And I started riding horses sinds I was 7 years old.
And I had a yough horse stallion, but he's sold.
Now I get training on Spanish horses.

Sorry to hear that you must put her asleep, she must be realy special, and sometimes it's hard to make a desission like that, but if she's in a lot of pain, then putting her asleep is most of the times, the best thing to do.
Do you have some pictures of her?
I hope you both are gonna be fine, animals are very special.

btw, most quarters here in Holland are very expensive, but quarters are very pretty and social to work with.

I own three, and am an avid trailrider. I've attended my share of shows and concluded that isn't for me. I'm planning to do endurance next year with my Appy mare.

I've been riding for almost 9 years now, and owned for 8. I'm a "dyed in the wool horse fanatic", and hope to see many more happy years with them.

When I was nine years old, my aunt rented her pasture to people with horses. (she lives on a property connecting ours.)
I got to know them and soon was caring for and riding them, the people were soo nice to me and patiently taught me to ride. Meanwhile there was this horse someone had abandoned on their property, it haden't been ridden for seven years so I started training it and riding it every evening. It threw me three times, but after I got over my fear, she was perfect! I could trail ride with her and every thing. The people that owned the other horses, moved to california, so it was just me and my mare.
Just recently tho, my aunt sold her, and I didn't have the funds to care for her properly, so I had to say goodbye. sometimes it is hard to believe that she is gone forever. But it is something I have to deal with.

I began riding at a young age I went to a horse camp when I was 9 or 10 and I also had riding lessons for a few years learned to jump and barrel race. I learned both English and Western. I have not been riding for a while cause it is to expensive and no riding stables that are on a bus run.

I love horses too! We have 4 horses in my family. It's sad, most folks automatically assume that we're like rolling in cash whenever I say, "we've got 4." All 4 of our animals are abuse or neglected case horses that we'd gotten dirt cheap because no one thought they where worth anything anymore. My first horse, (and still my 2nd best friend) is my Arabian gelding, Montana. When we'd first gotten him he'd just turned 4 and he was tied up in a barn, only a few inches bigger than he was, and he was standing up to his knees in cow poop. All that he knew a lead rope was for was to be tied to a tree and left as a lawn decoration next to the highway. He is know turning 12, and my 6 yr old brother can lead him.
We did have a 16 yr old quarter horse/arab cross. She was acquired from one of my grandpa's neighbors. She was mostly a case of neglect. We has her for 4 yrs only and sadly, we had to put her down 2 springs ago. We suspect she was older than the previous owners claimed her to be. Her name was Sugar.
Our 2nd horse was for my little brother, also a neglect case. Her name is Tootsie Pop. She's a mini-horse that was "too big." Therefore unsellable...and yeah... Ya'll seen where that one was going, huh? *sigh* Sad isn't it? I stand 5'2", and her head comes to just above my hips. She thinks she's a big dog. Follows you anywhere, and everywhere you go. And eats more than one of the big ones do I swear!
Our 3rd horse is a TOTAL abuse case! So much so, I personally don't think she can be undone, but my mom seems to think we can. She's an 11 yr old P.O.A. mare. (Pony Of America -if you're not familiar w/ horse breeds) Her original name was "Speckles," but over the last year (the length of time we've had her) I'd call her "Spooky" because she'd spook over the simplist things. If you move a certain way, she panicks and bolts. The person we got her from also takes in rescue case horses, and has a colt from Spooky that is just as tame as our mini and my gelding, so we know Spooky was once tame too. But, *sigh* yeah. People who abuse animals stink.
Our latest and 4th horse is Bell. She is a 19yr old, registered Quarter Horse mare. Used to be the top of her kind barrel racer. When she her legs could no longer handle the strain of her "profession" her previous owners left her in a barn. Alone. And to starve. We'd gotten her free from some "adopt a horse" thing back in spring. She was so skinny, and when you thought of what they made her do, you look at her legs and you looked at all her ribs sticking out, and then you looked at her face, you would have cried. I bawled. She's looking 'bout 75% better than she did several months ago, but Bell's still a long way from being 98% the best. In fact the other day I'd come in from the hay field w/ Montana, and as I was unsaddling him, she hung her head over the fence a wickered at me, wanting to go next, but I'm afraid to take her yet.

Good for you to rescue these wonderful animals. And if you have the space it is really not expensive. My cousins had 4-6 horses on their field.

we just met yesterday cat! i didn't know yet you were into hunt seat,etc. I am also.I started dressage 3 years ago after trying barrel racing.I didn't like that.I've been taking english riding lessons(hunt seat) since then.I'm still perfecting my ride though.I'm tall and we recently changed my mount.I work better on this horse but we lease him right now,and show him for the owner. we'll talk ok?

Mind me asking where you are at? You might be surprised at the stables in your community. I know I was when I started looking. I can get a lesson at $20-$25 for one hour, quite reasonable I think. Where the prices start adding up is when you take a horse out to be trained, and I know this area is cheap compared to much. I've put over $1000 into Sierra.

Interesting thread! I've always loved horses but being a city girl, never got within sniffing distance! Then, when I turned 40, I realised I could do anything I wanted (being single and all that!!!) so I a) learned to swim and b) learned to horse ride! Never got too far with either but at least now I don't sink and can at least do a gentle trot! I just really adored the experience and as for going for a hack with friends .. amazing!

Sadly, I haven't been able to ride for the past 15 years - anyone think it would be too late for me to try again?

I moved up to the North of England five years ago and there's heaps and heaps of riding schools around here - one just down the road from my home. But at 63 .... ?? :o
