  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

There was a good discussion on another board about this but it was zapped!!

I just have a question for the Christians who think that homosexuality is wrong. I'm not asking this to start an argument but this was one of the main topics that turned me against Christianity when I classed myself as a 'Born Again Christian'.

What do you base this decision on? I can only find a few references in the bible about Homosexuality, the main one is in Liviticus. What I find a little odd about this is that although it does specifically say that lying what a man etc is wrong it also says lots of strange things about when a woman is on her period, eg that after her 'time of the month' she must take 2 doves to the local temple. Now people don't do this so why do you take parts of Leviticus as gods will and not others?

The parts in the New Testament are extremely difficult to understand. I have read many articles on this and I have found that the translation is often very difficult. Basically the word which has been translated as 'homosexual' could also as easily mean 'sexual immmorality'.

I don't understand why some Christians look towards words rather than in their heart, if God did exist and he is a loving god surely he wouldn't condemn two people who are in love? How can somebody who bases a lot of his teaching on love reject it just because its between two people of the same sex?

John Burgeson has an incredible collection of high-quality links and notes on the topic of Christianity and homosexuality. He looks and and links to the various sides of this debate, and does so in a consistently charitable manner.

Ya know, I did an essay just like that post just a little while ago, but I was mostly doing the rules from Leviticus that keep calling shellfish 'abominations'.

It is kind of bizarre that people who are obviously so devoted to living the Bible would enforce some rules while totally disregarding others. Well, so long as they properly cleanse themselves and withdraw from society for the appropriate number of days.

The main passage in the NT that Christians use to bash homosexuality is Romans 1:26-27. They also like to cite 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 where Paul lists homosexuality and "effeminate" men along with murders and adulters and other as ppl who won't get into Heaven.
But the point is: Are that words inmutable? Can they be changed?

We can see how God changed his words from the OT to the NT. So, why the NT cannot be changed?

Love is no excuse for sin. GOd doesn't approve of ANY sinful relationship.
Homosexuality goes directly against His intended plan and purpose for His creations,us.
The parts you speak of are NOT hard to understand at all. It is when people try to justify a sinful lifestyle that the words becomes twisted and the meaning becomes unclear.
Homosexuality is a sin of such magnitude that God's word tells us that homosexuals will not see paradise. Now I believe that anyone who repents and asks God into their lives will be with Him, but the key is repentance, which means to turn away from what you were doing before.

There are many websites and books you can look into...but be sure that they are not secular in orgin..there is not truth to be found there.
