• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The horse is dead, folks. We are continuing to beat a dead horse.

No one is going to change anybody's mind on this subject.

People who are against homosexuality are going to continue to be against homosexuality and are going to find every Scripture they can and every religious and secular source they can to support their views.

Gays and lesbians and people who are supportive of gays and lesbians are going to find every Scripture they can and every religious and secular source they can to support their views.

We will continue going round and round and round in a circle without any resolution whatsoever because a resolution on this subject is simply not possible.

There is no resolution to this subject, folks. We can continue to quote every source we can but no one is going to change anybody else's mind.

Given that: can we agree to disagree and go on to another subject?
Well…I changed my mind.

If I can anyone can.

I think what is important is to understand that hate is very deep rooted and difficult to dislodge. But that does not mean one should not try.

There is a series of public service commercials on HIV awareness. http://www.knowhivaids.org/learn_new.html
They promote the goal of “Change one Mind. Change the world” And I agree. One mind can be terribly difficult to change. But even if only one mind is changed and the truth shines through…isn’t that worth it?

Good post. I agree that God does give people the grace to change their minds about discrimination or hatred of others. It may be hard but it can be done. I have read stories of repentant racists, who used to be belong to groups who were against integration and who hated Jewish people. They changed their minds due to a personal incident, or a revelation that caused them to see how their attitudes did more harm than good. A man my husband used to know was brought up to be an unforgiving racist. As he was dying of cancer in the hospital, he became friends with a black nurse, and he repented his previous racism. I think it takes seeing the object of one's fear and hatred in a human light; not as a criminal, or an animal, or something stunted or perverted, but as a fellow human being who deserves to be treated with love and compassion.

While some people can never be convinced, many others are willing to listen to the different arguments and honestly think about their views. It seems to happen only rarely, but there are few feelings more rewarding than those you get when you've managed to make someone really think about things and change their mind. If I make a hundred posts and persuade one person, I consider that a fair exchange.
