You might think that, but you don't find a lot of people denying the murder of Julius Caesar, or the 30 year war, or the massacre of little big horn.

Only when people have an agenda that makes it convenient to forget do they become sceptics.
I agree. A good example here is the great love of Christ Myth theories amongst Atheists, with almost no support at all for any of them.

People deny history, or reframe it, when they are trying to fight a contemporaneous battle. It is as in Orwell's 1984: "We have always been at war with Eastasia".

The big problem in my opinion, is that the Holocaust is taught in a wrong manner, anyway. The Nazis are treated as an Other, as evil incarnate. They were normal human beings, from an educated and normal European country. Yet they commited the Holocaust, an unbelievable evil. It should focus more on our inate ability to do evil, how the jackboot could potentially march everywhere, given the right circumstances. It profits no one to just castigate the Nazis and not address that within each of us, a potential Nazi may lurk.

Remembering the numbers of dead, the dates, or the names of Concentration camps, is not that important. It would be better if people did, but as long as they learn the lesson of the event, then such circumstantial details are fairly immaterial. That lesson, I think, is often neglected, as Fascism is cast as some bogeyman or monster, instead of our shadow. It is quite clear in politics today, in which Nazi is used as a catch-all term of opprobrium, while people themselves act in totalitarian ways while doing so.

No no. I mean it's not a surprise that people aren't very familiar with it.

In doing so would only cover a part of the picture. There were many who revelled in evil, of their own accord and beyond any orders given. Whilst I get where you're coming from, there was an evil sadism present that goes way, way beyond 'we're all capable of doing bad things'.

That evil sadism is part and parcell of the evil things we are all capable of doing, in my opinion.

There is literally not a single day we are not reminded at the holocaust.
So we are not in danger of forgetting about it. Mostly it is misused to push some kind of political idea.
We never talk about how a this happend. The people in Germany had nothing back in this time. They where eating cats bacause of the duty from WW1 they had to pay. In southern Germany we still call cats "Dachhase" which means "rabbit from the roof". Then this Hilter guy came and promised to save everyone. He blamed the jews and wanted to get peoples pride back. My grandpa died in WW2 and of course I was talking about that with ma grandma. They tried to hide him so he would'nt have fight. But as he was a tall blonde man he was one of the first the Nazis took. He was 23 years old by that time. The dehumanization of enemies is quite normal in war. War shows the worst side of humans that we always refuse to have. Still it is there. Making humans become cruel sadists is utterly easy.
-
So now we live a luxary life and we are arrogant enough to think that cruelty will never ever happen again. We all changed for the better. That's not true at all. The situation changed for the better. I certaily don't think Germans are more evil than the rest of the world. It goes for everyone.
-
Denying holocaust is for idiots. Sure we can discuss about the number but it happend and it was one of the worst massacres ever.

Education might be abke to fix this. I know that sounds obvious, but I mean to say that education about history is vital for society.

Liberal teachers will do whatever it takes to make education look more like Sesame Street than Main Street.

Sesame Street has historically done a pretty good job of introducing kids to real world issues. OTOH, it was my conservative Christian teachers (and those who wrote the curricula they used) who tried to whitewash our past.

Liberal teachers tend to cover the holocaust, and the dark spots in history.

Millions of civilians died horrible deaths in WW2, not just the Jews.
But we're talking about the Holocaust, not WW II in general.

Or are you trying to diminish the deaths of Holocaust victims?

It's part of the modern conspiracy trend. There are people who run with a narrative that many famous events are all part of some giant US government conspiracy.

And if people think that 9/11 was fake and the moon landings were fake, then how much easier is it to believe that the mass murder of people you never knew on the other side of the world never happened.
Yeah, I'd add to a few more events to your list that modern day individuals attempt to morph into mere conspiracy theories. Off topic so I'll not say any more since this is really history as it relate to the holocaust and not about His story.
  1. The existence of Christ
  2. The crucifixion of Christ
  3. The resurrection of Christ
  4. The integrity of Apostolic witness

Not at all, but I think it belongs in a much greater context.
