  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Haha ok I won't!

I never used to watch football but I'm starting to now, and realising just how skilled the professionals are! I support Liverpool FC, England for international matches and Spain when England aren't playing!

Liverpool?! Well that's better than QPR..
Why Spain? They're a good time, I'm just wondering

Well, I live in Liverpool so I don't have much choice. Apart from Everton, which isn't really a choice :p jk! Spain is my default team because I studied Spanish at uni and lived there for a little while - so it's mainly for nostalgic reasons really!

Coincidentally, the manager of LFC is Spanish and there are quite a few Spanish players at the club so it's perfect for me!

Hi ceh85! :)

Aside from football, what else do you like to do?

God Bless You! :)

Hi Allen1901!

Yeah, I'm not actually that big a football fan to be honest, although you might not guess it from this thread so far! I prefer hockey :)

Hm, well I love socialising and meeting up with friends - I'm a pretty social person. I do like to surf the internet a lot which is how I ended up here! A big passion of mine is reading - lots of different genres but crime fiction and travel lit are probs my favourites. Another passion is travel and learning foreign languages - I'm on 3 + English so far and have a list of langs to tackle in the future...

I've been ill for a while so physically can't do too much but I used to love long walks and playing hockey. I do some knitting and cross stitch and I like watching a good film. I do like shopping too but I'm thinking it's not so conducive to a Christian lifestyle to do it as much as I did so am trying to cut down! I've been a Christian all my life but I've started to take it more seriously lately so that is taking up a lot more of my time than it used to!

That's about it I reckon! My illness does restrict me somewhat, but I am hoping to get more active again in the future.

This is a long answer! Hope I haven't gone on! Thanks for the question. Feel free to reply in kind!! ;)

Hi ceh85,

Hocky is a fun sport :)

I'm glad you found us on the net!

I also like to read. Mostly non-fiction.

Wow! Four languages! :)

Kniting and cross stich seem like fun. I've seen my Mom and Grandmother do it.

I like movies too. I'm collecting 365 movies good enough to watch once a year.

I wish I could say that I've been a Christian my whole life, but I can't.
Better late than never though :)

Sorry about your illness :( I'm always here to pray or talk about it with you, and I do hope you feel stronger :)

Here's another question. Can you suggest any movies for my list?

God Bless You! :)

Hi, thanks for your reply and your kind words re my illness. God willing I'm coming out of it now but it's going verrrry slowly. Yep I studied languages at university. In fact, that is pretty much all the knowledge I have in my head now, all the maths, science etc disappeared long ago! :p I find language-learning such a buzz, I can't wait to learn some more! Wow I like your idea to collect 365 films, you'd never be bored of an evening! Hmm well you probably will know/have some of these already, but some films I love are:

Goodbye Lenin - set in Berlin, about East Germany after the wall comes down. Pretty funny and historically interesting. Good soundtrack too.

Arsenic and Old Lace - a 1940s Cary Grant film. I don't really want to give away the plot because it's part of what makes the film great. But it's good! If you don't already have it, It's A Wonderful Life is another great Cary Grant film, and The Cat and the Canary from a similar period is also good.

Life Is Beautiful - an Italian film about a concentration camp in WWII. Surprisingly nowhere near as downbeat as it sounds! The DVD is dubbed in English too.

Little Miss Sunshine - quirky film which makes you feel good about life! Hilarious in parts too!

Bourne trilogy & Die Hard - action-packed. good storyline. nuf sed!

I would also recommend Little Women, except that it's a pretty girly film so I don't know if you would really be interested! It's really good though if you are! ;)

Hope there's something there that you will enjoy!

I forgot to ask, who do you support? Just curious to see what you have against QPR..?? ;) :D
My appologies I overlooked this post until now.
In the English league I'm a Chelsea fan.. who happens to be the Quarter Pound of Rubbish's arch rival.
As for national.. well I think the flag in my profliel says it all:D

Hi, I'm glad I could suggest something you don't already have! Goodbye Lenin has to be my favourite film ever, I have initiated my whole family into my fan club! ^_^ Hope you enjoy those films when you get hold of them anyway :)

Haha Quarter Pound of Rubbish... never heard that one before but I like it ^_^ Poor QPR! Yeah I saw you have a Russian flag on your profile, are you bilingual by any chance?? Your English is perfect. Just interested because I studied languages myself, although not Russian - one day! :)

Hi Riddik7!

Haha good sound effects there! :p Thanks for posting in my thread! OK the answers to your questions aaaaare:

1. Not really. I've played a bit of Ocarina of Time and Soulcaliber II but mainly because I have brothers who play video games and they like to make me have a go sometimes. I think so they can laugh at me :D Which is fair enough because I'm pretty bad, especially at racing games - I get stuck!

2. Oooh, this might take a while, I love food... OK well, narrowing it down, I would have to say: broccoli, nutella and chorizo...on toast!! hehe. Not really, separately is good!

3. Argh these are good questions! Well, at the moment I really want to go to Spain, more specifically Madrid, cos I love it there. But if I had to pick a country I'd never visited I'd say France. I'd love to go to Paris. Mind you, anywhere would do - ideally I'd like to travel to lots of different places.

What'd you study, language-wise?

I did Spanish and French at school, then I carried on Spanish at university, and I also studied Italian from scratch at uni. I did French at uni too, but only in my first year. There are more langs I want to learn though, German is next on the list, then Russian funnily enough!

How about you?

Russian, German, Spanish (Si, yo hablo espanol tambien!) and of course the obvious English.
At one time I spoke Turkish and Arabic well enough to have conversations jsut above basic. Definately NOT engaging or philosophical discussion, but this is many languages to remember! Especially when one does not use them often.

Also.. I noticed you said you want to go to Madrid, you really should. It has many nice sights

Yes I've been to Madrid quite a few times, I love it there but I've never lived there. I'd love to do that and get to know the city really well!
