  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well.. my Family speaks Russian, German, Spanish and English.. hence those.
Turkish and Arabic I learned while living in the middle east. Although I must admit Arabic and I do not get along very well.. and French and I are not even on speaking terms! (pun intended)

Hi, sorry for the delayed reply! Hope you're well today :)

Wow that's amazing that your family speak all those languages. It must have been quite something growing up hearing them all. I really want to teach my kids Spanish, if I have any, I so wish I were bilingual. Although I do like my parents, so it's ok really :p Living in the Middle East must have been a really interesting experience also. I think we are sadly uninformed about the Middle East over here - we only ever seem to hear bad things, it's a shame.

yes it is sad.. there are some pretty cool people over there to... it's much like how people view goths as satan worshiping murderous, violent psychoes... fact is 98% of goths are the most peacful people you will ever meet... they just take all their frustrations with life and such and feed it into the wardrobe... which appears to work very well. heh...

ok a question since i'm here (still recovering from missing the imaginary man and falling down the stairs...)

anywho...
1. Where to you plan to be 20 years from now?
2. Favorite star constalation?
3. Favorite movie from pre-2000?

That is unfortunate. I have learned many things from the experience, and generally consider those experiences to be good.

Yeah it is a shame. Hopefully most people know better than to believe everything the media tells them about that part of the world though. Personally i think living in a foreign country is always good for expanding the mind, but even more so when it is a total culture-change, eg Europe-Middle East as opposed to going from one part of a Europe etc to another part of the same continent. So far I've only lived in Europe but am hoping to go further one day. Were you out there long?

Ha yes good example about Goths, it's all relative - I live in one city where the fashion is to wear very 'trendy' and 'glamorous' clothes, but if you go an hour down the road the trend there is to wear Goth clothing, but not anything extreme - just loads of black basically! There it is considered normal, but in my city you would probably attract some attention and be labelled 'other' or 'weird' by some. Just depends on your perspective.

Yay more questions! :sohappy:

OK

1. Ooh no idea! Really, no idea! Physically, that is. I could be anywhere. As you might have gathered from this thread I like exploring different cultures so who knows where that will take me.. Alternatively I may just stay in the UK and indulge my curiosity on holidays! In the non-physical sense, I would definitely like to be recovered from the illness I currently have. If I'm not better in 20 yrs time I will be seriously fed up. But I really pray that isn't going to happen :prayer: I would like to be in a place where I am doing a job I enjoy and which helps other people - maybe something to do with the Fairtrade movement, or working for a charity. I don't know if I'll have a family to be honest, at the moment I don't feel like God is particularly telling me I will get married or have kids, but then I suppose it is kind of useful to have met your husband by the time you want to marry! So maybe I will meet someone and change my mind. I think really I don't mind where I end up as long as I am happy with my life. I would love for my parents and siblings to be well and happy too.

Phew long answer!

2. It would have to be the Plough, since that is the only one whose name I can remember and I think the only one I have ever been able to make out lol.

3. Little Women. The way the film shows female relationships is so genuine, and it is the only film that makes me cry happy tears.

hehe. bet you're cringing at the girlyness of my last answer :p that's what you get for asking!! ^_^

Sorta going back to your first post..What would be your own answer to any question you could ask yourself, whether it be a world issue, personal, frivolous, whatever. Be creative

Oops I'm sorry, I thought I'd already answered your post!!

Hm now my answer is going to have to be really good to make up for the wait lol.

OK well one thing I would def ask is:
1. what would you invent if you could invent anything?
my answer would be a device that let you absorb information while you slept, but let you have refreshing sleep too - imagine how much more stuff you could get done! i would use it to read books in my sleep :D

2. what invention do you wish had never been invented?
the atom bomb. and guns.

Ooh, also

3. What do you think you will crave when you are pregnant? (v random, i was thinking about pregnancy cravings the other day for some reason)
i would say broccoli, for the iron, custard for the calcium. and steak, even though i don't like it. probably all together :p

Hope that was random enough for you!! ;)

Without guns- the acquisition of food would be much harder and people most certainly wouldn't be able to have easy access to food like now.
Likely it would also mean you'd have to go out and hunt your own food, with bow and arrow nonetheless.
While I agree some people use guns for bad- it is not the tool that is bad. It is on the contrary the person.
The atomic bomb has no peaceful use, so I could understand that one.

I don't know, I can see how that would have been true in the past, and probably in the present in some countries. But modern farming means that we don't need guns anymore. I do agree that objects can't kill people, but as Eddie Izzard put it, 'I know they say guns don't kill people, people kill people...but I think the gun helps'. I suppose there are lots of other ways to hurt a person than using a gun though.

But the atom bomb would def go  :amen:

I was saying without the gun for hunting we wouldn't be where we are now. Also, people like meat so they'd hunt it anyway. With or without a gun.
I would also like to state, I work in law enforcement and there are more people in jail for attempted murder because of a knife or their fist by far than by guns. (just food for thought as the saying goes)

Yeah I see your point. I would say that we have more problems with knife crime than gun crime in the UK so it's not like guns are the only weapon that cause problems. I think it's a shame that people feel they need to carry a gun for their safety though, and I hope that the UK does not become like the US in that respect (I know many people in the US don't carry guns, but more do seem to have them than in the UK).

Well far more in Russia do than the US.
And far more in Switzerland have guns than the US and UK put together!
So be careful of stereotypes

Do you play any musical instrument?

Apart from the spoons? :p

Well first of all I played the recorder, which is a rite of passage for English kids as you probably know! And a terrible experience for their parents :D Then I played the viola for 3 years in high school, and had piano lessons when I was 17 for a year. I'd like to get back into piano and maybe viola at some point. And I wouldn't mind learning guitar.

I sang a lot in school too. At one point I had a different choir rehearsal every day :)

Do you play any instruments?
