  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Depends on your definition of high maintenance I suppose.

It is generally associated with gold-digging, which is probably why most women who you think are high maintenance don't classify themselves as such. But a woman could be high maintenance emotionally too.

OK...so like how come a high Maintenance woman never sees herself as high maintenance?

How come most women perceive high maintenance as gold digging?

And when discussing this with a significant other I am on the losing end of the discussion...WHY?

:yellowcard:

More information needed. Obviously you think your woman is high maintenance - but you haven't elaborated as to why.

Do most people perceive the negative traits about themselves? Not usually. Especially if they're comfy being that way, and they don't want to accept the truth and make changes. They're gonna live in denial and make excuses and rationalizations, and blame everyone but themselves.

I can't stand high maintenance PEOPLE, period. Men or women. People who are demanding and selfish and vain...bleh, stay away from me.

Because you are calling her high maintenance. Which normally entails how selfish and vain someone really is. A woman that is high maintenance will either one consider it a good thing or will not consider it that way because to her, it is normal.

maybe if Men went back to the old way of treating all women with respect, dignity, and utter politeness and regard, then maybe women wouldn't seem "high maintenance" to us guys at times. whats wrong with 1953? gosh, I like old fashioned manners.

Do you even know what 'high maintenance' is?

Manners and politeness have nothing to do with high maintenance.

I just think that we have lowered our standards of how a woman should be treated, but when a woman expects to be treated very well we sometimes label her high maintenance. granted, there are women with impossible standards of "maintenance", but I find it is not found as commonly as some people make it seem.

I will agree with you that it is not as common as many men think it is.

I don't know about other men, but I treat women pretty good, but I will complain about high maintenance when it affects me if I see it. To me, how one treats a woman has nothing to do with the topic of high maintenance...especially when to me, women are equal, not fairy tale goddesses to be worshipped(I only do the latter to those I'm with romantically).

Yawl crack me up...First off Supplanter is anything but "High Maintenance"...if anyone is I am...but I don't hear her complaining one bit.

We enjoy the stew out of each other's company...and talk a lot. She is one of the few that can hold up her end of a conversation with me.

But I do hear from other guys and have been with other women that require all of a guy's free time either in formal dates or time spent with them doing nothing. Every moment must be accounted for with them. They require either phone calls or text messages all throughout the day...that is what I and most guys mean by High Maintenance.

The question came up at our Sunday School class's Thanksgiving luncheon Potluck. One of the guys was busy putting his foot in his mouth and I was only too happy to assist him.;)

I am not suggesting that any emotional input is not required by a guy into any relationship....How much is too much is simply dependant upon the people involved...

But Yawl Carry on!:D

That is not high maintenance. That is insecure and downright needy :p

I agree, but as many people have said it all depends on your definition of "maintenance" or "treated well". But I think it comes down to a conflict between chivalry and feminism (and for the sake of this post I'm using the generalized definitions of each term. i.e. "chivalry= old fashion manners" and "feminism= equality between genders")

Most women today want both. We want equal opportunity in the career world, but we want to be provided for. We want to be seen as strong individuals who can make it with out a man, but want a man to "take care of us".

I'm still astounded when a male stranger opens the door for me, yet I've seen some of my guy friends call a girl "high maintenance" for expecting this action from men.

So like most people have said... it's really all just about perceptions and expectations.

Often times, the term high maintenance is associated with physical appearances, but not all. In that, we are talking about the appearance of beauty. I think that, generally, men don't really know much about beauty and women focus on it day in and day out. So we're debating foriegn policy with an ambassador as a nine year old. It's easy to see why we "lose" every discussion.
Personally, I try to affirm those around me. Everyone. And there are people here that can vouch for this as I knew very little about them when I did it. I'm sure that sometimes it comes across as butt-kissing, but it rarely fails to empower. Women, high maintenance women, are no different. Often, their focus on what I am encouraging them over only gives more strength to the words.
"Hey, you look nice today! Do you have a big meeting you're preparing for? You haven't taken over the world yet have you? I must have missed that memo!"
I often try to ....
crap. I'm doing that thing again.
