I don't know, but it's not worth the risk. I agree with others that you should throw it out. That's true in the future with any food that makes you sick.

This is the first time I have ever ponder it. I guess it is because I am not sure it was what did it and also there's a lot left and it is my favorite. I know you all are right, thanks!

The problem is it could have been put back in the freezer days before I came along, waiting for me.

With merely spoiled food, a lot will make you sicker than a little.

However, if the issue is botulism--such as results from bad canning or bottling--it takes only an extremely small amount to kill you. A teaspoon of botulism toxin can wipe out a small town.

They gave you the ice cream and told you what happened to it? I doubt it would have given you food poisoning, but melted and then refrozen ice cream doesn't scoop the same and you would have been able to tell something was different about it. When in doubt; throw it out.
