• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

well I lasted 9 days, but I took off my patch two days ago because I was reading this web site that kindof made sense at the time. It said that wearing the patch just prolonged the withdrawel symptoms so I took it off and thought I can do this.

Apparently not, cause I smoked last night and so the patch goes back on today. I talked to my cousin who wore the patch for about 3 months and has been smoke free for six months reminded me why I wanted to do the patch in the first place.

I don't know anything about patchs or other over the counter stuff to help with stopping. I smoked for over 12 years, at one time 3 packs a day, but thanks to God I was able to quit and that was 30 years ago. I threw away my last pack and have never smoked anything since, even cigars that men give out for having children.

I know it was The Lord who blessed me and gave me strength, but He did so through the use of a crutch. I used tooth picks. Plain wooden tooth picks. I had one in my mouth almost all the time except when I slept or was in church. Tooth picks help satisfy the urge to have something in your mouth only they don't harm you like gum or other things can if you are concerned with damaging your teeth.

Ultimately you have to decide that you are doing this to benefit your health, and not think of it as depriving yourself, when in truth the only thing you are depriving yourself is poison.

Best wishes

That is interesting about the toothpicks Jim47! I also agree with your last point. It is poison. I smoked for 20 years.
