No question there, and I am keeping this within the bounds of American law because of that.

However as an FYI, up here in Canada in my home province (Ontario) vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, whooping cough, measles, rubella, mumps, chicken pox and meningococcal disease is actually compulsory for a child to attend public school.

If you choose to not have your child vaccinated, they can not enroll in public school. However you are still required by law to have your child attend school until the age of 18. That means you must either pay out of pocket to have your child attend a private school that will let them in or home school them.

Personally, I think that's absolutely fair.

According to another post, of Jennae's, it's unfortunately, more lenient now in Canada, than it seems, from this post, because parents can just opt-out. It's why, their herd immunity, has lowered.

Of course. That less than 10% of the population is not vaccinated but of the 68 cases of measles in the Disneyland outbreak where vaccination status is known 53 were unvaccinated.

It isn't hard to see vaccines are effective.

Luke was a Physician and from that time forward there have been devout Christians who were and are physicians. Those who refuse help from God's servants have no one else to blame for the consequences of their actions.

Would you feel better if we all called it community Immunity?

The US is not as demanding on parents. In fact, parents can deny their children life saving medicine or surgery if their religious beliefs call for it.

I have been hearing so much about measles and reading the pro-vax vs anti-vax has my head spinning.

Is herd immunity true or a myth?

They say vaccine herd immunity exists. But it doesn’t.

Herd immunity 101: Herd immunity is the belief that if a certain portion of the population becomes immune to a disease, the rest of the population will be protected from infection. Sounds great, except herd immunity only applies to diseases derived naturally that give one lifetime immunity. A vaccine is deemed effective if it introduces an antigen but that antigen may not cause an antibody response, but if it does, won’t necessarily give one immunity, but if it does, only provides temporary immunity. In other words, effective doesn’t equal protective. You can have the antibodies and still get sick. Major fail.

A. W. Hedrich, founder of the herd immunity concept, found that a 68% exposure rate was all that was needed (not 95%, as people have been mistakenly led to believe). By that definition, even if herd immunity did apply to vaccinations, we should not see outbreaks of any vaccine preventable diseases, especially in exclusively vaccinated areas.
