  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

has a christan I love myths and fantasy, However it be Harry Potter or Disney Movies and even write many. So should I stop?

Hello SAYA,

Your primary focus should be on the Bible. Neither Harry Potter or Disney have any place in Christianity.

God Bless

There was a thread a while back about Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings that kind of focused on the same question. I think as long as it doesn't consume you and you can watch it for enjoyment then I think you're ok. However if it begins to take over your life and you get to into it I would stop.

Each person here may answer you differently because in the end, such a decision is personal and individual in nature. Don't look on the exteriority of it, whether fantasy can be considered moral or immoral... we will get another HP and LOTR bashing thread here if that's the case, instead, try and look into yourself and into your heart, if such practice (or any practice for that matter) either leads you closer or pushes you farther from Christ. That's the singular compass that matters.

You will get a huge variety of answers to your question, OP.

In the end, you need to do what your spirit tells you, after praying and seeking God's guidance.

I've been a fan of fantasy books and movies all my life. Some things I'm not comfortable with, and I'll avoid those. Others, I have no conviction or guilt about, and I feel free to enjoy those.

God guides you through His spirit within you. Listen to Him, not the spastic, various personal opinions of other people.

Why do you have to stop?

Maybe you have a gift for writing and seeing things in parables or deeper meanings?

Many of those fairy tales have a 'Grace' vs 'Law' deeper meaning to them.

Maybe you can show Grace (Love in action) through them and share it with others?

yI am a Scfi fan and we all wonder about our original "Adam and Eve" ancestors, whether or not we should take the mythological-like biblical stories literally, or make a constant effort, like private detectives, to find ancient clues in pictorial symbols or images from ancient foreign cultures that give away a common message:.
The pyramids of Egypt, the Stonehenge of England seem to point to the heavens for answers. Human sacrifices, bright star worship like worshipping the sun or the planet Saturn where God's commandment: " thou shalt not worship false idols" must not be taken lightly as a funny joke, otherwise violent circumstances can occur, whether through human political wars or through mother nature's psychotic episodes of deadly disasters, such as we are seeing today on the television news about the Egyptian government corruption and England's terrible floods:.
I think it is a definite wake up call for all non-Christians to see that the 'sign of the time' are happening and must focus on Jesus where his future global reign on a new Earth will end false idol worship and atheism Rev 21:2 .;'*';.

I do believe I have a gift and others have told me I have a gift of seeing the deeper meaning of things. I don't want to stop but many tell me would God really want you writing about some myth of false gods and not the real thing. To me sometimes one must use other means to show people to love and not accepted evil in other way such has animate

What Inkachu said.

Concentrate on getting close to God, and He will let you know. :prayer: If something is bad for you, He will know. No one else can tell you. Just because it's bad for them, doesn't mean it will be for you. Just because it's ok for them, doesn't mean it will be for you. But God will let you know, if you follow His leading.

What you allow to enter your brain, finds a place to settle. What you write, gets anchored in. Imagine your life as short, and all the things you want to accomplish must be condensed into a few years. Is there room for all the things you want, or are there things that should be set aside in place of productivity or spirituality?

If I said what I believe to be true, it might not be received. But keep in mind that Jesus is the light, the truth, the Word, the living waters, the bread of life, the fulfillment of the covenant, the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.

Make sure that what you bring to others is not darkness.
Bear His light... be the light for others to see their way through life.

I don't see a love of fantasy as a problem as long as it's not your primary focus or obsession. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien are the classic examples of men who loved God and fantasy. The thing about fantasy is that when it's written well, you can gain spiritual insights about God through it. The Chronicles of Narnia are riddled with spiritual insights. Harry Potter also has a lot of positive themes on loyalty and friendship. It all depends on what you're getting out of it.
