• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So with my ocd, my mind makes up promises and if I dont do it I feel like my fears will happen. It sounds nuts but I can't find a way out of it. Last time my ocd got like this i had thought, "if I don;t go t bed right then I was going to lose my soul" I didn't believe it and when I was still praying I felt someting had attacked me and I felt really literally empty like I didn't have a soul... I feel normal again now and my friend told me it was just the enemy tying to make me believe his lie. this was back in march when that happened.

Thank you for your help, I just feel like I've given up and I can't get back to God. It's hard for me to do anything because now it's about God and other people. I know God lives forever but these thoughts have been saying, "if you do this then.." i kow they are total lies but I can't make them go away. I feel really stuck and I can't tell my church about it because I dont think they will know what to do or might just think im crazy.

It sounds like it's time for you to get some professional help to treat your OCD. And yes, sometimes pastors or church counselors may not understand much about OCD if they haven't encountered it before. That said, if that is the only avenue open to you, if you have or can find a pastor/counselor who seems to have compassion and good common sense, I would suggest sorting some of this out with them. Don't give up. I know it gets discoraging when OCD seems to tie you in knots and say there's no escape. There IS!

Oh, and counselors who are experienced with OCD often advise using this "rule of thumb" ~~"if it "feels like OCD" or even seems like it might be OCD, it IS OCD!" There are probably some exceptions to that, I realize, but overall, I thinks there's wisdom there. Most of us who battle OCD, myself included, do struggle with the "is it God or OCD" battle, incidentally. Again, I think it is wisdom to treat what feels like OCD as OCD. In other words, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.....Same for OCD.
