  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

it really depends on what kind of photography you want to get.

If you just want to take snapshots, a compact digital camera would be your best bet. you won't have to worry about buying film or developing costs.

If you want to go to more advanced techniques, then you should go for an SLR camera. There are film models that you can get for less than a digital model, but digital offers more options and greater flexibility. Digital also has the advantage of never needing to pay for film or developing.

So if you could tell us a bit more about what kind of photography you want to do, it will be much easier.

if you want to take professional quality photos, you'll need to get yourself an SLR camera.

I recommend a digital camera, because you can see your photos straight away and there's no film costs. The Canon 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) is a good starting camera, but it's not of professional quality. However, it will give you some excellent photos.

When looking at digital SLR cameras, i advise you to go with either Canon or Nikon, as these companines make the most well respected SLR cameras, and they have the widest range of accessories.

I`d second what Tiberius said, with the 400d it`s a good camera to get started on with the ability to go advanced (shooting in manual rather than program setting), kit wise the most important things to but are good leneses but I am affraid they will cost more than a 400d however they will last for a long time and give you the best results.

All that said this will be a big investment, you need to make sure that this is what you want, a 400d sells over here for £440 pounds body only, and then high quality lenses will start at about £500 going up to £6000 and in some ludicrous cases £70,000.

Second hand is a good option.

But all told if you do want to take professional pictures (which by the way many amateurs take) then this is going to be a costly pastime.

Mark :)
