• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I know I am young(17) but I started experimenting with inhalants when I was 13 to get rid of pain. They were easy to get, didnt last too long etc. I then started popping pills and I have been struggling with these for the past 4 years off and on.

I wouldnt say i'm addicted....
cause i've made it 22 days before but then my mind started telling me "you can get high just this once and not want it for a while.." thats where I fall.

I feel like I will never be able to stop...
I dont know what to do
Its getting harder and harder

Sounds like addiction to me.

Addiction is not just a physical thing. It is obsession with getting high and the compulsion as well.

Try going to some Narcotics Anonymous meetings. They can really help open your eyes to the nature of the disease. :)

That is my suggestion and thoughts too.

In addition, some people find that getting professional substance abuse treatment can be helpful with Narcotics Anonymous.

The secret to over coming an addiction really is to take it day by day. One day at a time and if you fall down (slip) then just start over and take it a day at a time.

Finding healthier ways to solve stress is also a great idea and some people find professional counseling helps in that regard too.

Try to get rid of any source of drug in your environment. Not having it close by is essential. Avoid friends and family who use drugs or would encourage you to use.

....I have been struggling with these for the past 4 years off and on.

You say you've been struggling...that indicates addiction to me. People who are non-addicts don't struggle with substances. They drink (or whatever) on ocassion and don't find themselves in a substance abuse forum asking for help. The fact that you are posting here indicates that you want/need help.

I suggest going to NA and getting a sponsor and working the steps.

The Devil is a Liar!!! Meditate on this scripture: "He who the son sets free is free indeed" and with that "You are a new creature" so that means that whatever you have done it does not exist the Lord said himself "I will bury your sins in the deepest sea." So when the enemy tries to bring up your past say "New Creature." Its like a crime scene, but you are not there because all the evidence is gone, you are new!! Amen and Amen.

I believe too that you need to stop. What is it you're taking?

Along with what others have said, try to stay away from places or things that may trigger your need.

You have your whole life ahead of you, if you need to, see a dr. I'm sure he can help with
good programs and help.

I never wanted to quit either,
then it almost killed me. It
wasn't until then that I realized i had to stop. Please don't let it get that far.
