• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hhhhhmmmmm. I can't imagine why you would think the quality of posting is questionable lately.;)

I read and enjoy the pieces that you and others post. I can't always read them immediately but I usually will read them within the day. Unfortunately by the time I get to posting however the thread topic has veered off course or the thread itself buried. But I do read them and find it all very edifying. I'd much rather ponder those threads slowly and post periodically then read 20 threads of "not so much" and post frequently.

My 2 cents.

I'd have to agree with the majority.......if the op is long, lengthy and boring I don't bother with it. Also if it's just a link posted, that's another one I'd skip. I prefer threads with thought out posts and ideas. Why bore us to death with links and lengthy posts where your mind drifts half way through?

Also some topics, like current events belong in the current events forums, not in Catholic forums. If it has to do with current Catholic events, then so be it.

Another thing to take into consideration, if the op asks others for their opinions only to post argumentative responses, then I'd rather not post in there either. Ha.......maybe that's why I don't post often?:holy:

I like the current event topics here in OBOB. I don't visit the many of the open Forums, preferring to stay in the Christians Only most of the time, and it's always interesting to see how we respond to the world daily.

So the OP can't challenge? In his own thread?

Well sure he/she can challenge, but not argue...see the difference? I can start a thread, you may post a response, but I don't agree with your response....so I can ask you why you feel or think this way. That way we can start a discussion, not an agrument. Hope I cleared that up.:)

I don't think anyone here argues and gets emotional about it. Maybe I'm wrong though. I think arguing is fine, in the classical sense. It blends serious thought, humour, sometimes satire, and overall, it makes one think and consider his own words and those of others. We may even walk away a bit disturbed, but we walk away pondering. And that is the difference between being alive and dead.

You're sounding more like GKC with every post, PP!

only the if "challenge" is done in a nonconfrontational manner, taking into account the sensitivities, and diversity of beliefs of the group.

Blessed to be associated with Michelina!

There is a fine line between disagreeing and being disagreeable.

I agree we can have calm and rational discussions. However, as I've learned of late, the internet lacks the intimacy of one on one discussions if we were in a face to face situation.

Also, there were times when I've read through an interesting thread and no matter what someone says, the other refuses to even consider the other side's point of view or clarification of the subject.

Length of posts, as many have said, is also a problem. Having a vision problem myself, I tend to get cross-eyed very quickly when I'm staring at the computer screen. And, as I'm doing now, I can get rather long winded at times. (That's what I get for being more prolithic with my writing skills than my talking.)

Oh, and BTW, English, please, English. I have enough problems with my English let alone trying to learn Spanish. ;)
