• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am trying to quit smoking. I've set a quit date for Jan 7th. Of course I've tried many, many times before. I follow the Lord, my eyes are on Him, I grew up and now raise my children in His way but I have this obstacle. My parents smoked and it was normal to step outside church and light one up for them. I do not do that but I do not want to smoke period. I need help with this more than I'd like to admit!

I'm an ex-smoker and have coached others in quitting including my wife. Can you tell me what you have tried before? Have you ever heard of Allen Carr's Easyway program?

Sure. I have tried mostly cold turkey, Wellbutrin, gum, patches and a host of "natural" tablets from health food stores. I actually quit cold turkey when I was pregnant with my 3 boys but started back up except for the youngest I actually had quit for 2 years then started back up. I had seen Alan Carr over the internet but I'm pretty leary only because I haven't researched.

Val3,

I highly recommend it. I bought a copy and donated it to our local library, so you might check and see if it is available in Texas where you live at a library. Then, you won't need to buy it. Based on where you are with trying to quit, I think it would be worth the money to buy it if you can't find it in a library.
