  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello friends!

I’m working on a project at school; writing a book.
My book is about a young girl named Tekla, student at a university here in Luleå, Sweden where I live.

Since Tekla was 17 years, she and her best friend has been working on a new operative system for computers. This operative system, called O.I, is unique because of it’s ability to ”clone” itself into other computers. That is, if the user of O.I hacks into another computer, O.I takes the disguise and behaviour of the victims computer, making it look like the computer hacked itself.
That is like someone breaks into your house, dressed and looking exactly as you, even identical fingerprints, and then steal everything you got.
Even if you got cameras and alarms in your house, it will still look like you did it.

But I need help from you guys!
A part of the project is to make a short survey with questions about the general interest of the book.
Therefore, I’ve made a few questions (and a poll). I would be very grateful if you could take a little of your time to answer them. :)
But before you do, please read this synopsis:

The year is 2013, Tekla has finally finished her 8-year long project of creating the most advanced, and dangerous, operative system ever created.
After successfully hacking into the big, high-security shoppingmall called Smedjan without leaving a single trace, she realizes the power of her creation.
Together with her closest friends - Melissa, Alex and Golvarzi – she quickly become the most famous and infamous hacker in history.
By using the operative system for both good and bad deeds, the O.I-team is wanted by both the policeforce and FBI, as well as softwarecompanies like Microsoft, Sun and Apple.

But one day, a cyberterroristgroup called FreeDoom, threats to release a virus that will affect the Internet and satelite-communication, causing complete shut-down and chaos all over the world.
The O.I-team is immediatley blamed for this threat. Now the four youths has to find and destroy FreeDoom and their virus before it is released, and avoid getting killed or caught while doing it. Now they only got enemies all over the world, and some of the enemies will not hesitate to kill.

That’s it. =)
If you don’t feel like responding to the question, I would be just as grateful if you vote in the poll what you think about the synopsis/bookidea in general.
The questions are the following:

Your age.

Your interest of the genre (sci-fi/fantasy)

Does the synopsis catch your attention? Would you continue to read the entire book after reading the synopsis?

Your vote in the poll.

Anything else you would like to add?

Thank you very, very, VERY much for your time!

Personally I am not into such things.....

But then again I dont read practically any fiction lately

Does the synopsis catch your attention?

Yes it does, there are some promising ideas in it

However there is a fault, I was reading a book, and thought it was a fairly reasonable book, but when I found out the heroes were 14, I just sort of closed it..... and decided this is not really worth my time

Same goes for Tekla, a super hacker at 17....... not exactly logical ... perhaps a gang of old professors,

If shes a genius, why is she not in one of the 3 best unis in the world? Universities compete for such people

Now they only got enemies all over the world, and some of the enemies will not hesitate to kill.

I dont know........ should something like this really happen, the person wanted dead, would not live 24 hours

Would you continue to read the entire book after reading the synopsis?

No

Anything else you would like to add?

This is just my opinion, dont take it seriously, or if you think on it at all, take it constructively

In the end, good luck, even though this isnt my type of thing, theres definitely a market for such books

Ah, I must've been a little unclear there. She started with the idea of that operative system at 17 years of age, completed it about 8 years later, when she was 25-26.

The reason she's not in one of the best universities is that she doesn't want to, simple as that really. Kind of hard to describe why since you don't really know her personality. =)

I dont know........ should something like this really happen, the person wanted dead, would not live 24 hours

Yes indeed, but then again nobody knows who she is, since she never leave a trace after her attacks.

In the end, good luck, even though this isnt my type of thing, theres definitely a market for such books

Thanks again!
This is exactly what in need, it's easier to discover flaws when someone else tells them for you.

Does the synopsis catch your attention? Would you continue to read the entire book after reading the synopsis? It caught my attention well enough (if it didn't catch my attention at all I wouldn't be filling out this survery) but I don't think I would want to read the entire book. You've got to be more original than that if you want to keep my attention. Superhackers? Seen 'em. Evil Cyberterrorists? Seen 'em. Let me guess? FreeDoom is made up of a bunch of old guys? At least middle-aged? I have no problem with young protagonists, not even young supergenious protagonists, you just have to be careful. If done poorly, young protagonist can and will brand you as an amatur writer. One of the biggest dangers is when it's the young against the old, with the young portrayed as superior in every way. If FreeDoom is another set of incredibly talented young people, then it's not as big of an issue? Did that make sense?

Your vote in the poll. It's decent. I mean it. It's a good base....but you need a lot more than what you've explained if this is going to be especially good

Anything else you would like to add? I have one question for you: What color are Tekla's eyes?

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, want any clarification, or just plain want more detail about what I thought. Or if you just want to chat. That's fine too.

Hello and thank you!

Actually the "evil cyberterrorists" are in the same agegroup or some slightly older (none over 35 years of age), and one of the leaders within that group is Teklas teacher at university, her "favorite" teacher too, well enough that they've become sort of friends with each other.
Though that teacher will eventually try to change side when he finds out that Tekla is behind O.I, and he is ordered to kill her.

Also keep in mind that Tekla and her team isn't a bunch of heroes either, Tekla is actually more of an anti-hero(ine), if it weren't for her good friends, especially Alex, she would probably be the bad guy. ;)

No, no side will be superior to each other, and there really isn't any "good guys" vs. "bad guys", it's more of a who-gets-who game, and I promise it won't have a happy-fluffy-fairy ending. =P

Maybe I should have explained a little more in the synopsis, but it's quite hard without writing the entire book. o_O

Anyways, thank you so much for your opinion, I'll keep it in mind! ^^

Oh, and Teklas eyes are bluegreyish, when she's not using her snakeeyelenses at the ravepartys. ;)

I'd still be a little nervous.

 Hi

I really enjoy reading Sci-fi, And the synopsis did catch my attention, so I voted Its decent, well, would add decent enough...lol I think I would be quite curious to reed that book.

Well, as for terrorists... ok suppose this topic is part of most of modern movies, and not really my thing.... But probably makes the story more exciting....

One thing: I do not really see a bunch of hackers defeating a terrorist organization, even if she is such an incognito, she will get herself revealed as soon as she stands up to the terrosts! You say they are ready to kill, well, indeed, but if they can never ever find her, why would she be scared to get killed?

I do not usually like the stories where the characters are such superheros, meaning that they being as genius as they are, can take on a terrorist organization--that's quite trivial....to my mind.:)

Another thing, that when i was reading the synopsis, I was quite sure, that the answer was lying in the fact that their OS was the only hope of humankind being immune to the virus...LOL then the FBI and everyone would need those hackers to help 'save the world'... was a bit disappointed to see that the story went on like most of Holywood movies....

I would give it a shot though... sounds like my type of a story...

Good luck!
Love and hugs from
deornie
