  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So, I have just recently begun developing my own film, and I am attempting to make some decent prints, for the usual 5x7 and possibly 8x10 frame. The problem I am running into is that I have not found any way to clean the negatives, so that when I put them in the enlarger, my prints come out with spots everywhere. How can I effectively clean these negatives?

I attached a scan of a print that illustrates my problem.

Buy a can of compressed air, the stuff used for cleaning optical surfaces. If that doesn't work, use soft cotton or synthetic material used for cleaning lens surfaces to **very gently** wipe away dust. There are more aggressive methods available including washing the negatives in a special solution, but that's a last step. Dust control in negative and slide storage, as well as in the dark room environment, is essential for a good quality print.
