Actually I am curious about the Pentecostal Church..I know almost nothing about it. Not to make light of it..but is that where people touch people on the head and they fall over? I ask b/c I found a Pentecostal CHurch website and there was a picture that looked like they were doing that. There's a Pentecostal Church in my area and I was thinking about going to a service..but I'd like to know what it's about first. Thanks!

I don't know about penticostal but being slain in the spirit may happen in any church or even in tents, home groups... etc.
and it has nothing to do with anyone touching you on the head. Sometimes that does happen but it still happens to some people when they are blown on, prayed for without any touching... Also some people do not experience those things at all. There have been times when whole crowds of people would fall down with a wave of the Holy Spirit. All those I was talking about I have heard of and seen in my own life but there are also intances in the Bible.

Yes, being touched on the head and falling over is a common stereotype of pentecostals. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but pentecost has had way to many stereotypes since TBN came along. :)
Well, here's a quick lesson in pentecost:

AoG (Assemblies of God): The believe in the trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). They believe that Repentance and Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are necessary to salvation.

UPCI (United Pentecostal Church International) or just UPC: They (or should I say we) believe in oneness (Jesus is the Father, son and Holy Spirit). We also believe that Repentance, Baptism in Jesus' name, and recieveing the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tounges is all necessary for salvation.

ALJC (Assemblies of the LORD Jesus Christ): Basically the same as UPC, just a different organization. This organization is considerably smaller than UPCI.

There are several other independent churchs that aren't affiliated with an organization.

In conclusion, pentecostals share a bond in that:
- We believe baptism and repentace are necessary for salvation.
- We believe that God can heal people of physical or mental illness or infirmity (ie: cure cancer, cure paralysis, deafness, etc.) , and deliver people from addictions.
- We believe that it is possible for a person to recieve the Holy Ghost and Speak in tounges, though some believe these do not necessarily come together.

Hope this helps you understand pentecost. I'm sorry, I probably gave you more than you wanted...

I don't know if that is what he meant but there are some churches that believe that if you have the Holy Spirit, you have tongues. Tongues are only one of the Spiritual Gifts and not everyone gets it... they are a little easier to recognize though.
