  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm hoping to find some good LIGHT conversation about God. Intensity scares me away. I see a lot of people here advising seekers to start by reading the bible, and while I do understand that thats important, I myself am an hands on learner. I'm looking for real life modern people to help me see how God is in the world/my life, TODAY. I did not do well in history class in high school ;)

I also have attention issues/low patience. Is there anyone or any board or website that puts Christianity in the simplest of terms? Bible Cliff's Notes? LOL

Hello and welcome to CF!

I see Lulav made some forum suggestions, which is good. I could better tell you where NOT to go, as areas I am more familiar with tend to be either intense, or sometimes deep.

I know you said you are more likely to have some trouble reading the Bible, but when you do, the Gospels would be the logical place to start. Generally the Gospel of John is first recommended, and then maybe follow up with Luke, but of the synoptics (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) there isn't that much difference which you choose. Some translations are clearer than others, and some more accurate than others. My preference for easy to understand and accurate would be the EOB, but it's not available to read online and not that easy to find (I ordered mine via an app, as I recall, for a couple of dollars). Probably one of the best compromises among the easily available ones is the NASB. Either way, if you read just a little at a time, maybe a chapter a day, hopefully it would be easier to take in.

Again, welcome to CF, and I pray that you find what you're looking for by way of conversation, and that you're blessed by being here. :)

Hello and welcome to CF, curiousj. I get the attention issue thing...I myself find it hard to concentrate. Not sure I can help with finding a "simple" answer but, I'll start with this- God is good, fair and Love. If you're willing to open up to God's word, then you'll find time & patience to learn all that's needed.

~Blessings~
