Firstly; that god does not send those to hell who have never encountered religion. My question is what if they have done bad things in their society and what if they have done good things? Does the fact they were unaware they are to be judged influence their outcome in heaven.
Here's what the Bible has to say:
Romans 1:18-23
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Some things to note from the above passage:
1. "The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against
all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men." (vs. 18)
2. People "suppress the truth in unrighteousness." (vs. 18) What is the truth they suppress? The revelation of God in Creation. (vs. 20)
3. People replace a transcendent God with that which He has made; worshipping the creature rather than the Creator, the thing that is made rather than its Maker. (vs. 23)
For these reasons
no one can claim guiltlessness before God;
all stand under the wrath of the holy Creator.
What about those who die never hearing the saving truth of the gospel? The Bible offers this in response:
Luke 12:47-48
47 And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
Note verse 42 in particular, which indicates that ignorance plays a part in determining the severity with which God's punishment will be meted out. Although all are guilty of punishment, as the passage in Romans explains, God does take into account one's knowledge of the truth in measuring the degree of that punishment.
I would also like to know about people with mental problems such as autism. People who cannot even be taught and cannot comprehend god.
In the story of King David and Bathsheba when God takes the life of the newborn son made of the adulterous union of the two as a punishment upon David's great sin, David remarks,
2 Samuel 12:23
23 "But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me."
Here is a clear indication that David expected to meet his infant child in heaven. The plain implication in this is that in some instances God overlooks the sinful nature of human beings and extends to them the same undeserved mercy and grace that He offers the rest of humanity through his Son, Jesus Christ. King David's newborn child could not comprehend the concepts of right and wrong, could not understand the Good News of Christ's salvation of mankind, was unable to recognize the stamp of God upon Creation, and so God, being the merciful and gracious God that He is, redeemed the child in spite of the curse of sin upon it. In the same way, I believe God redeems from the penalty of sin those whose profound cognitive disabilities prevent understanding the gospel, and the concepts of God and right and wrong, and the mark of God on the physical world.
I would also like to know about people who have done wrong but it was out of their control, for example sleep walking and then killing somebody. Or developing a brain tumor, which can seriously change a persons personality and can cause some to become very aggressive.
No, I don't think God holds us responsible for those things we may
accidently do that are harmful.
And lastly if god does not punish those, (who are morally good of their society), who have not been told of god how can he punish someone who is told of so many religions. Someone who would believe if there was a universal religion but cannot as they see every religion contradict each other and see religion as a social product.
Being stymied by a variety of options is not the same as being unaware of, or completely unable to comprehend, any option at all.
Selah.
