so forgive me for starting a heaven thread, but sometimes i wonder if heaven will be... nice? from what i hear it sounds so robot-like, like there isn't a purpose... it bothers me a lot. i know this isn't a detailed post, but i'm so confused right now... please, if you have something to say about heaven, say it here...thanks

Martha, you worry about so many things. You are more of a robot here. Do this and this and this. There you will be a Princess of the King. Worry less about what you will do there but imagine who you will be. That will be a blessing to you both now and then.

Peace and Joy,
Cosmic

Heaven is the presence of God. The Book of Revelation is the best window into what heaven will be like.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

I think people have a lot of misconceptions about heaven, based on human tradition, not based on the Word of God. I think it would be good to do an exhaustive study on what Heaven is sometime. I know I haven't even scratched the surface of it. Here are a few things that are stated about heaven:

John 14:2-3 said:
"In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
1 Corinthans 12:2-4 said:
I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago--whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows--such a one was caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man--whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows--how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
Hebrews 11:16 said:
But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Revelation 21:1-4 said:
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

I think heaven will be like this; no more tears; no more suffering; and the best thing is we will be with Jesus forever worshipping him. It doesn't get any better than that

My feeling is your purpose there will be pretty much the same as it is here. To worship and serve God. Only you will be "home" not a stranger in a strange land.

God bless

PS...no worries

I understand what you're talking about. I've felt this way too. Why? What would we be there for? But earthly goals - like a spouse, children, careers.. they don't exist. It's as if.. this life is a test, to see if we will accept and obey God. and if we do.. we get, through Jesus, what God intended for us in the first place. A place of beauty, love, and peace.

I think I understand where you are coming from. Eternity sounds almost like a prison sentence with no variation from a given routine. Is that about right?

I don't have any keen insights into what heaven is really like but I do believe that the passage from Revelation about all tears being gone and no pain or suffering is accurate. At least, it fits what I think heaven is like.

Have you ever read a book by C.S. Lewis called "The Great Divorce"? It is a very interesting story of one person's journey from hell to heaven. It may be of some help as Lewis sees heaven of having multiple landscapes and views.

I think I am just taking up cyberspace with this post so will quit for now.

We were discussing this in our staff meeting yesterday (I'm our church secretary).
I think part of the problem is, many people think of heaven as being 'in the clouds' and all we'll do all day is sing to God.
Our minister said he's going to take lots of nature hikes, our youth minister said that he is going to paint pictures. I said that I want a horse so I can go horseback riding all the time!
Everyone says we will worship God the whole time we are in heaven. And as I said, we picture that as always bowing before God, singing, etc.
But what is worship? Aren't we supposed to worship God with everything in our lives, with everything we do? So, why won't we do a lot of the same things in heaven as we do here on earth. Isn't heaven a 'new earth'? Will we still have homes to live in? Will we have pets? Will we be able to do all the fun things we love doing now.....swimming, reading, listening to music, gardening, taking walks along the beach, etc. Only everything will be perfect. And we'll do all those things in worship to God.
Will we sleep? I love a good nap sometimes.....so will I get to take naps? What about food? A banquet is mentioned in the Bible, so I'm assuming we'll have food in heaven.
Honestly, we won't know till we get there. But I'm sure it will be more than we could even begin to imagine.

Right, it'd be great to be able to do all those things. But don't you need a body to do it? which is my question... do we have our bodies in heaven? because I've heard that we don't; that we are just spirits.

I've heard we get 'new' bodies. I have not really heard that we'll just be spirits, but we'll have new and perfect bodies.

1Cr 15:35 But some [man] will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? 36[Thou] fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: 37And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other [grain]: 38But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. 39All flesh [is] not the same flesh: but [there is] one [kind of] flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, [and] another of birds. 40[There are] also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial [is] one, and the [glory] of the terrestrial [is] another.
