Yes, the Holy Spirit being the Author of Scripture means it would do us well to hear His advice on the matter by knowing His Word.
Reading and hearing are not the same thing!!
The Pharisees read and studied the Scriptures but they didn't seek the voice of the Lord!
This is pointed out really well with the story of Saul. We read that story, right.
Saul was a Pharisee of Pharisee, and he knew "His Word" if you want to call the Scriptures "His Word" - and so by his great 'knowing' of 'His Word' the Scriptures, Saul went to put early Christians in jail!!! If what you write is correct, then Saul was doing 'well' by taking the advice on the matter of knowing' His Word'. --- Yet what happened to Saul? He was on the road and suddenly he actually heard (not read and called it hearing) but he actually heard the voice of the Lord saying "Saul, why are you persecuting Me" - and silly Saul could only respond "Who are you Lord" because he did not know the voice of the Lord.
There was a difference between seeking the voice of the Lord and listening for Him and reading the Scriptures. Saul found out the hard way. We read this story, right?????
Perhaps we read verses like;
Gal 3:22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Jn 5:39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
Prov 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your way acknowledge Him and He will bake your paths straight.
Reading the Bible and leaning on your own understanding has not and does not get it done!! We need to seek the Lord!! We need to listen to Him!! Have we not read that man must live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God?? He is the great "I Am" - so He is always with you to be sought, found, and heard from!!
If you get a dream, and you are wondering about it, seek the voice of the Lord and listen!!!
If you pick up a thought of some spiritual voice, are you going to go to your Bible of to your Lord Jesus Christ for information about it. Did we not read that Paul took all thoughts captive to Jesus Christ? So how come someone writes "hear His advice on the matter by knowing His Word"? You don't hear His voice by knowing His Word, because Jesus Christ is the Word of God!! So you hear His advice on the matter by seek Him personally and listening to what He personally has to say to you. But perhaps not all people believe in Him. Maybe they don't know that He stands at the door and knocks and if anyone hears His voice and opens the door He will come into them and eat with them and them with Him. In that case they are probably searching the Scriptures thinking in them they had eternal life instead of seeking Him personally for advice?
Jesus explained, Jn 8:47 He who is of God hears the words of God for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God."
That was told to people who studied the Scriptures as the Word of God, but they didn't know Him as the Word of God
Rev 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called the Word of God
So why are they calling the Scriptures by His name? Is doing that giving honor to His name?
Mal 2:1" And now this commandment is for you, O priests. If you do not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name," says the Lord of hosts, "then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.
We call Him Jesus Christ because Jesus means God's salvation, but His name has always been "The Word of God" and He is not the Scriptures!! He is called "The Word of God" because He has the words of God! They belong to Him. The Spirit takes from what is His and speaks them to your spirit, so that the Word that we preach is found in our hearts and on our lips. That is the Word of God we are preaching, not the Bible. We are to use the Bible to preach the Word of God (Jesus Christ).
The Spirit once told me, "Karl, we don't use the Lord to preach the Bible, we use the Bible to preach the Lord." Yet people get that backwards often. They get zealous for their Bible instead of the Lord of lords and King of kings. They put their faith in their Bible instead of Jesus Christ. So many on that day will tell Him they cast out demons in His name, healed the sick in His name, and even prophesied in His name, but He will tell them that He never knew them. He doesn't lie. If they were seek Him, listening to Him, and having conversations with Him then they know each other. But if they know Him, who is it they are not telling people to seek Him, but rather are pointing people to the Bible and preaching it as the Word of God instead of Him.
I want people to know Him. It is a wise thing to seek Him. It is written that all those who seek find. He is just standing there knocking with His voice. Can we believe that?
