• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

This coming Saturday marks the 3rd week since Ive smoked. My method was to go one week smoking on cigg every two hours. I decided to go by time instead of number of ciggs a day. This way worst case I would go longer than two hours without one and not be tempted to smoke all of my limit that day. After the first week I went one cigg every 3 hours for a week. At the end of the 3 hour week I quit. I was smoking like 4 or 5 a day by that time so no need to spend week 3 at one every 4 hours. Its been almost 3 weeks since I ended the week of smoking one every 3 hours.

I will say and this was most important, I had the fear of God to fuel my desire to drop this horrible addiction. He helped me all the way through and I couldnt have done it without him. It helps to find projects (Im a college student so that was easy to find), be productive and keep busy because bordom is fuel for the desire to smoke. You must also be dedicated to the regime for it to work. Dont cut your hours short but lengthen them if anything. The regime is mainly to get your physical body off the nicotine, as far as your heart and mind you just have to want to quite which I feel is the easiest part. I wouldnt reccommend drugs on the market for quitting smoking ( who knows what side affects they may have down the road) but its better to quite one way or another than not at all I guess.

I hope this helps others quite, I smoked for a good 5 years which may not seem like very long but I smoked a pack a day and thought I would never quite but Im free thanks to God and Jesus.

That's great mate!

I smoked on and off for 3 years and did it because it was the cool thing to do then realised I didn't need to smoke to be cool and stopped pretty quickly. You're correct about boredom, it drives most sins and things that are bad, it really is the devil's playground.

God Bless you and hope you truly succeed with this!

Thanks man, I think alot of people including myself started mainly to look cool and fit in.

It all came down to two points for me, one I was throwing my life away with every cigg I smoked. Life that God has given me to learn about him and serve him. And two being that your literally paying to kill yourself. Your paying the tobacco compaines to kill you. Its kind of suicidal really. Its like saying Im sick of the life Gods given me and Im trying to quicken the passage of my life.

May my messege be an inspiration for others to quit for the joy it will bring God when he sees his sons and daughters drop this habit, and the physical health benefits it will bring to you personally.

That's awesome, bro. I smoked for many years - and one day got a scare that made me want to quit. So, I asked the Lord to help me, and you know what? It's been a whole decade since my last cigarette. With God, all things are possible. You can do it - I know you can.
