  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi there, i'm new here so i probably have many questions, some of which i won't have thought of yet. I've recently felt myself becoming closer to God, although it has been a very gradual thing. My mum is a devoted christian so over the years she has obviously tried as hard as she can to make me see things in the way she does. It's taken nearly 10 years but i do feel like i'm slowly getting there, not just because of my mum but a few things that have happened to me since i was born that were 'impossible'.
My trouble is though, i can't talk to people about it face to face(which is why i'm writing this). I admit, although being brought up through church i know very little about it so i am keen to learn. My problem is i feel very inferior to proper christians, because of the knowledge they have and the fact that some of them seem to look down on you because you don't know what you should know and it makes me very uncomfortable and i lose heart because it really feels like you don't belong.
I also worry that not being confident enough to speak about it shows that maybe i'm not really getting there after all because shouldn't i have no fear about being open?

Hi there,

First, welcome to the club! We have jackets!

First off, there's no reason to feel inferior to "proper" Christians. Although, your feelings are normal. I was recently saved as of june, and I always feel intimidated when I hear stuff like "Well, Son, Matthew blah blah blah says this while Luke so and so says all this right here" right out of their memory. Your hanging out with the wrong crowd if people look down on you for not knowing some things. Tell me this, Do you KNOW that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and he loves you 100%? Then you know plenty. I too, tend to feel sort of discouraged when people start reciting His word out of memory, but that just means that they have been doing this longer than I have. I too, don't go to church, mainly because of my schedule I need all the sleep I can, but my local Lutheran pastor needs work and the Methodist services don't do it for me either.

You just started, there's no reason to feel intimidated. EVERYONE starts somewhere. Even Jesus Himself started somewhere. You can't build a house starting at the roof (well, you could, but it would be sort of difficult...), but you start at the foundation instead.

Feeling 100% comfortable about speaking about Him and His Word in public comes with time. I too, felt weird mentioning it it to anyone other than devout Christians, but eventually you will have no problems with it. I still am struggling with it as well. Just ask Him to help you feel more comfortable about speaking aloud about it. He would be glad to help you.

This video helps, I can't post links yet, but just go on YouTube and type in The Inheritance for Men and Women. It should be the first video, it's 8:32 long. I was showed that when I first started, it helps, alot.

My PM and eMail box is always open if you need to talk.

Your Brother,
Eric

Hi there, i'm new here
Welcome mate!

so i probably have many questions, some of which i won't have thought of yet.
Ask as many as you can think of, but first consult HIS WORD before you ask.

I've recently felt myself becoming closer to God, although it has been a very gradual thing.
Yes, our Lord Jesus Christ works in gradually in everyone. It had taken me 34 years to know HIM, and now for the past 18 years I know HIM, before I knew just a God.

Ask our Lord Jesus Christ to give you the confidence to speak to people face to face in verbal prayer.

I admit, although being brought up through church i know very little about it so i am keen to learn.
Yes, our leaders are there to tend and feed HIS Lambs and Sheep. So you are a Lamb and you are ready to learn.

My problem is i feel very inferior to proper christians,
Mate, there is no such thing as a proper Christian, but there are Christians who may be more mature than others. It’s a long walk along the narrow path that believers walk.

Have patience and perseverance and you will learn. You need to be involved with a Bible Study Group.

because of the knowledge they have and the fact that some of them seem to look down on you because you don't know what you should know and it makes me very uncomfortable and i lose heart because it really feels like you don't belong.
Well, I guess they are Christians and NOT BELIEVERS, because a BELIEVER wouldn’t do that to you.

I also worry that not being confident enough to speak about it shows that maybe i'm not really getting there after all because shouldn't i have no fear about being open?

My dear brother, you speak what knowledge you have, but it doesn’t hurt to ask questions, because by asking your may learn.

But, if you worship in a traditional church then I can understand why you feel that way.

Just keep posting on this forum and you will get many answers, and may be totally different to each other, but at least you will get some confidence.

Blessings.

Anybody can learn the knowledge given enough time in the faith. Knowledge doesn't make people special. However, you, and only you have your experiences and talents and gifts. God spoke to you and saved you in a way that is as unique as you are.

Keep learning. Keep pursuing God. Share with others the things he has shared with you. Christians who have knowledge probably need to be reminded of what God is showing you right now in your life. If you wind up being corrected on a Biblical teaching, then you're just learning more for next time. We don't hold lack of knowledge against people so long as these people are humble and teachable, which you sound like you are.

No good Christian will ever look down on anyone.

People who do that are walking in the flesh and full of boasting, of pride.

There are wicked people good Christians see with pity, fear, horror... but not "looking down on". They are human, created, just as anyone else.

Be wary of those who are puffed up with knowledge they think they know.

Good Christians are comforters, counselors for those struggling.

You should be open, however, with your feelings: but choose wisely who you trust and put first the Gospels and the rest of Scripture -- not men's interpretations of them. Or, you will not be able to find your way.

Put first God and God will put you first.

As christians we are all "learners" and should never ever think we know all the answers. Knowledge is important but so is sprituality, being humble , and most of all loving others, Jesus always had hard words for those with knowledge but no love for others we need some of each.
You are new christian so others should be helping you to learn and maybe find some of the answers you are looking for, remember christianity is a life long journey and we will only know all the answers when we meet with god face to face , take your time and enjoy your new life in christ he longs for you to know more but most of all to know him ( this is real knowledge).

God bless you .

Well one thing is for certain - as His Word states - if you have Jesus into your heart and repented of your sins - your slate has been washed just as white as any other Christian.

On a level of 1 to 10 - when you ask Jesus into your heart - you are not a 5 or a 4 or a 10 - You are a Child of God and the angels are rejoicing over you.

Don't let those who act like they know more than you do get to you - just hold your head up high and know that God is so proud of you - you don't need approval of other people who think they are better than you are.

The Word says our sins are put as far away as the East is from the West - and those people that look down on you have not had their sins handled in any different way than yours were.

God knows your heart and the eagerness that you have - just place your hand in the hand of Jesus, let the Holy Spirit guide you and let the Joy of the Lord shine through.

Also thank God for a praying mother that never gave up.
