  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Having a hard night

As some of you know, I'm young in my faith. I'm having a particularly hard night tonight dealing with some demons from the past. They rear their heads at such bad times. I know this is just Satan trying to get to me, but he hs hit me in one of the most sensitive areas. I've been praying since I woke up at 3 AM. I went to bed sick to my stomach with a headache, and my wife woke me up to tell me she smelled cigarette smoke in the house. I do not smoke in the house, but my father in law and my dad were awake after we went to bed. I don't ask much, but I do expect the respect of not smoking in the house. My wife is pregnant and I have a 6 month old. Cigarettes are hard enough on an adult, let alone a child. She said I woke up easier than she has ever seen. Maybe that's because I have so much on my mind from what happened earlier. I was told by a pastor once that when you start to stumble, Satan will rear his ugly head and try to pull you as far down as he can. This is one of those times for me. I need prayer tonight moreso than ever (it seems that way anyway, I always need prayer). But to see someone fall out of the church once, and maybe twice if the future may hold it, is enough to send me to my knees. Especially when that person is as close to your heart as my dad is mine. I've never really had a problem sleeping, but tonight is an exception. I think I'm going to go back to looking around for an answer to whatever it is I'm looking for right now. I'm sure that if I find the right verse in the Bible, all will be well again, or it will put me on the right track and the Lord will let me know what I need to do. God Bless.

For a Newbie it does sound like your faith has matured a great deal. Those demons haunt us all, but if we keep praying our Lord will destroy all that want to hurt us. Or it may be the Lord trying to tell you to fix what you broke once a long time ago. It's always hard to say who's pulling on your shoulder, but as long as your hart is in the right place the Lord will guide you. Your going to be just fine, you will see God kicks ass like that...

It truly is hard to know which one it is. I'm trying not to worry, and to put all of it in God's hands, but it's hard not to try to handle it myself too. I'm going to have to pray long and hard about all this and wait for God to get everything sorted out. I've learned in my few months as a Christian that He is always watching over me and that things will work it's self out. This has really hit me where it hurts, and I'm having a hard time finding the means to cope with it. Thank you for your words of inspiration, and God Bless

Always remember Psalm 23, it has guided me so many times. And remember that God will never give you what you can not handle. You will find the way, and it almost seems like you have the answer, but you just don't like what you see. If this is not the case just have faith, He won't let you fall.

Sorry to hear about the trials that you are facing. I will certainly be praying for you and your family.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Pro 3:5-6

If I can help in any way, please let me know.

God bless.

The important thing right now is to hang on. Life can be a roller coaster (with seemingly more downs than ups), but over time your roots will become stronger. Kind of like the athlete who struggles when out of shape, gets through the tough games after conditioning and practice.

Ya know, I never really thought about it like that.

UPDATE: With much prayer and confidence, things have worked out for the better, and even though dad went back to my grandparent's house, things between us have mended quite a bit. With God, all things are possible!
