Generally when I see people use the term secular it means without religion. No presence on its part.

The relevant (to the US) definition of secular from Google: denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis.

Meaning that the US is a country where there is no singular religious ideology and no preference for any given religion given by the government.

That is an outright lie.

The SPLC lies. That is what they do. That, however, is not the issue. The real scandal, is how the mainstream media, such as in this case ABC News, uncritically repeats everything they say, a form of cut and paste journalism that otherwise would never be considered worthy of the name.
