Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I went to see a midnight showing.

In a word: WOW!

This is, without question, the best of the HP films so far. At times uproariously funny and at times heart-breakingly sad, this film captures all of the emotion in the book and puts it up there on the screen. The special FX are amazing. The action sequences are tense. I was totally amazed by the character development: especially Hermione, who is at turns a beautiful young woman, an angsty teenager, and an insecure and confused adolescent.

The violence and intensity of this movie is leaps and bounds more than anything in an HP movie so far. People die in this movie, and far more people are in considerable peril for long periods of time. Definitely deserved its PG-13 rating.

I look forward to seeing others' opinions as well. Dish!

I have seen the movies. I am not a fan of the books, but the movie is well written and well acted. I am surprised that Harry Potter is making a PG-13 movie! I wonder if there will be another movie after that, you know, since the half-blood prince book is out and all.

They are ALREADY working on the next movie...so yes there is going to be another. The author did warn us that as Harry got older books would get darker. I assume the next movie will have a similar rating.

Just a word of caution... unless you have a huge bladder, DO NOT get a large drink!! I can guarentee you'll regret it, because leaving at any point during this movie will be bad LOL

I have a question about this movie since it's rated PG-13 and such. Is there anything objectable in the movie as far as things of a sexual nature. Not sex itself but things like kissing, making out, etc.? Does the movie show these things? Are they implied? Is it completely free of these types of things? Are the women dressed decent? Thanks for you help.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. It moved really really fast in the beginning of the movie compared to the book. They left out so much from the books. I thought it was good overall, but if they had made the movie longer to add more into it I wouldn't have complained.

Aside from the ghost of moaning Myrtle trying to peep on Harry in the bath when she tells him how to solve the riddle of the golden egg, everyone is dressed decently. Harry, of course, is bathing in that scene, but nothing is shown.

Rowling wrote the books to be appropriate for the age level of Harry in each book. In the first book, he's 11, in the fourth book, he's 14.

He has a crush on a girl, but there's nothing more shown on the screen than him getting all confused and jittery when she's around him. And Ron and Hermione are still trying to sort out their feelings for each other.

It's rated PG-13 for violence, pure and simple. There's a lot of it.

By the way, was anyone besides me a litlle squicked out when Moaning Myrtle was trying to catch a look at Harry's, uh, .......?

 

[The Theory]

the rating level is raised mainly because of the darker elements-- as someone said, someone dies at the end of the movie.

All of the characters are dressed approriately for the movie, however, the previously mentioned bath scene there is a stained glass window in the room that I found kind of racey.

The Riddle Mansion scene, the graveyard scene, the dragon scene (OK, maybe not violent, but definitely perilous).

The Riddle mansion? How was that violent? I don't remember any violence going on. I remember Frank getting a shot of green light shot at him.

The graveyard? Not violent as much as it was intense. I guess I would call that "survival" versus violence. But it was the "fight" between the protaganist and bad guy.

And I don't think the dragon scene was violent. Dramatic? Yes. But not violent.

When I think of violent, I guess I think punching, fists, kicking, armies, war, not really a dragon and wants.

so was the myrtle scene. i didnt care for the movie at all.

OK, the Myrtle scene I found pretty squick just because the actress that plays Myrtle is 39 years old. I mean EW. Trying to act out peeking underwater at someone 23 years younger than her? EEEEEEEEW~!!!

Other than that, I totally loved the movie, and I'm about as much of a Potterhead as you can find. I can quote huge chunks of the books, tell you on what pages and in what chapters to find clues from past books for future books, am a member on a few different Potter message boards, etc. I was one of the fans that was GROSSLY disappointed by POA, so I didn't go into this one with the highest of hopes.

With an exception of the fact I wish they'd have killed of Barty Jr. and had Fudge have his temper tantrum <it's going to be interesting to see how they start out the next movie w/o ever showing the "parting of the ways"> I think it was excellent. I understand why they left out the parts they did, it didn't feel like they'd chopped up the whole plot, etc. I did notice it didn't feel like time passed as well as it felt like it had in other movies, but yep, over all, two thumbs up.
