I did not like it. Being a fan of the books and realize they had timing issues...they completely changed characters, stroy lines, and wiped out people. If it was just a movie...it would have been good...but changing characters and then adding stuff that was not there....no, I did not like it...

I thought they did a great job adapting it. There were a couple of changes and parts left out, but you have to do so in order to adapt a book to a movie. I think Mike Newell did the best job of any of the directors, by far.

The movie was great, and probably more deserving of an extended version than any of the LotR movies.

I believe it needs a extended verison. Also, LOTR needed extended verisons...I respectfully disagree. I have observed that people take the assumption of they have to cut to get it into a movie. I saw what did they change (a lot and outright several key characters ), cut things out, and put things in their way....has profound effects on the rest of the movies. They truly messed up the whole maze with Cedric, Krum, and Harry. They truly missed up the favorite follower. They truly changed Barty Jr. They changed how Dumbledore is a character from the books. They projected a man powerless to stop what is happening. They took out how Harry reacted to the whole thing. They made the ending and how Harry was handling it as a joke. Now, from this joke Harry is going to get really upset? How are they going to explain the Joke Shop? That does not make sense so it is going to have to be cut. So then how is Draco going to get his fellow death eaters in Hogwarts....

I agree with this 100% and that is one of my main qualms with the movie. The other actor was so much better at portraying a Dumbledore who was in total control and knew what he was doing and wasn't surprised when things went askew. As a result you knew he was in control and the greatest there was.

The current actor playing Dumbledore doesn't have that subtlety or nuances... and in fact plays an almost fearful, nervous Dumbledore.

I think it needs an extended version too. Yeah, they changed so much and left out so much. I was re-reading the book again to see what they changed/took out and I was wondering why they took out the joke stuff for Fred and George. That and they didn't have any money involved in the Triwizard Tournament so how can they explain the joke shop? It just doesn't make any sense.

the rating level is raised mainly because of the darker elements-- as someone said, someone dies at the end of the movie.

All of the characters are dressed approriately for the movie, however, the previously mentioned bath scene there is a stained glass window in the room that I found kind of racey.

I didn't think the mermaid stained glass window was racy. Her long hair covered her chest, so you really couldn't see anything...

Speaking of the joke shop, it might be hard to explain Fred/George in the next movie if they don't have the $$ to make all that stuff...

i saw it for the second time tonight and sadly my impressions of the film went from hella awesome to just ok. as mentioned, the movie was waay too short for a book that 8xx pages. in someways they set themselves up for confusion. take the whole barty crouch jr situation. they said it was HE who crucio'd neville's parents when it was beatrix lestrange in the books. whats gunna happen when justice is served for neville and he open a can on the person who ruined his parental relations(this situations just what i want to see)

things were changed too much for my liking. the film seemed to move too fast with not enough explanation of certain events. but then again almost all movies do tis when the base it off a book. im really interested in WB's approach to book 5. there is a load of way important events in there. take the end of the book for expample. ALL oof that needs to be in there. it needs to be AT LEAST 3 hrs to be decent IMO. good movies nowadays need that time at least to develop. take LOTR, gladiator, braveheart, etc.

its hard to compare the books/movies. 1 and 2 didnt have the resources they have now and, IMO, there wasnt as much as a craving. book/movie 3 was directed awesomely as was 4 but comparing them is a hard thing to do because they are two completely different stories. 3 is a more informative one with an emotional climax, 4 is more of one shows the chaos of whats to come with a load of more action(which was conveyed moreso in the film)

thats all ill write...i already wrote too much :p

I've never read any of the books, though I have seen all the movies so far. I've got to say, they are always very entertaining and enjoyable to watch, but usually just in the theater or with my family at home. However, even I got the impression that Goblet of Fire left ALOT out. There just was too much to put in, I know, but they didn't have much closure on alot of things, which bugs me.

I went to see this movie with my boyfriend on Sunday night, and I already want to see it again. I really enjoyed it; it was funny in some places and sad in others. It did move quickly, especially at the beginning, and I would have liked it to be a little longer so more stuff from the book could have been included. If they do come out with an extended version I'll be first in line to buy it.

I had a chance to see an extremely advanced screening for HP4 (Thursday at 7pm) with about 500+ other students from my residence. It made for an entirely different viewing experience for one - we all were at least older than the characters in the movie and could remember those phases of our adolescence and laugh about things.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie - I completely understand why so many of the subplots were cut out or merged - imagine having shown
the Weasley's in the "top booth" at the Quidditch World Cup: They would then have had to dedicate a few minutes to that whole situation (Bagman and then the house-elf) and then had to extend out the Death Eater's swarming the campgrounds to allow for the house-elf/Mr. Crouch/SPEW subplot. They would have had to then add in an extra scene in the Pensieve scene to explain Barty Crouch Jr. to Harry. Then they could have added in the Jr/Moody explaining to Dumbledore about what happened all year with that dynamic. ETC...
And that's just part of that one subplot that was merged/cut to allow for the movie being under about 15 hours of length.

My qualms about the movie - Dumbledore and Hermione. Dumbledore's character, as said, looks more worried than he does authoritative. Definately annoyed me - especially the fact that he was so mad with Harry over the Goblet of Fire situation. Hermione - definately had some actress issues. Final lines in the movie - wow. Everyone in the theater was laughing at the absolutely poorly timed/enunciated line by Emma Watson. It was painful at other times as well to listen to her "act". Some lines were slightly just off cadence somewhat - just didn't sound natural.

One thing I liked about the movie compared to the book - the humourous addition of the innuendos and "sexual tension". (I say "sexual tension" in meaning as much as a 14 year old can experience at that age.) I thought they were HILARIOUS -
Hermione's "Viktor's more of a physical person." with the giggle or Harry immediately popping back to the door when Cho said something at the Owlery. Neville coming home late from the Ball was priceless as well.
This was also enhanced by the presence of 500+ dormmates there and all of us having heard or experienced a similar situation with a friend or ourselves. Had most of us rolling in the aisles at how well timed and performed some of those scenes were done.

I think the crowd you see it with definitely heightens the experience. I saw it at a midnight showing on opening day, so naturally everyone was psyched to the hilt. There were people in costume (one guy's Dumbledore costume brought thunderous applause). There were also a few teenage girls wearing shirts with cute sayings: "Cho's a Ho" and "Madame Maxime is my mom" were my favorites.

When the camera showed Harry with his shirt off in the bathtub, the teenage girls in the audience just about swooned. :p

Wow after reading all the posts, now I'm not sure if I should read the first HP book I would have ever read! Or if I should wait and read it AFTER I have seen the movie! Either way it seems I am going to be ticked at the movie. I have loved and own every HP movie so far,but as mentioned,I have never read any of the books.

I share many of the sentiments expressed here!

I liked it, probably not as much as PoA, but it's so bittersweet. It's almost unfair to try to judge it since the book was CRAZY long! It's my favorite of the books, too, so that makes it more bitter than sweet. I just couldn't handle how much was left out. :sigh:

But, still, it was sweet! I enjoyed it and thought it was great...even if my Potter-fan-side kicks in and tells me they left out too much.

Now, DUMBLEDORE made me angry! What are they doing to him? He's SO intense! He's like a totally different character than what Rowling has made in her books...how disappointing, eh?

The following is just some more blabbering...I'm just thinking out loud. :p I'm not quite sure I agree that the books are getting darker. The whole story started with the deaths of Harry's parents and the second book was about the Diary horcrux possessing Ginny. It all seems pretty dark to begin with. I think it may be that the movies are just starting to reflect that part of the books more visually now that they are getting older.
I will stop now...I could go on for days. :D
