How do you know if you got saved because you believed in god, or only because of your fear of hell? How do you know that christianty is the only right religion? How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god? How do you know that your god and someone else's god couple in fact be the same person?

How do you know if you got saved because you believed in god, or only because of your fear of hell?
This one is a tough one... honestly for a long time I thought I was just afraid of hell... but then I started to read my bible more honestly, digging deeper and praying often. I discovered it impossible to forge a relationship with God out of fear, but it came natural out of love.

How do you know that christianty is the only right religion?
I wish I could sit down and give you an answer, but the truth to this is that you know in your heart. I can quote the bible all day long, but if you do not choose to believe with all your heart, then you can never understand. I have had several prayers answered in ways that I know only God could do, and that is the rock I base my faith upon.

How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god?
I will probably get odd looks for this, but in all honestly I don't know. But I believe with all my heart that my God, The Christian God, is the one true God. It's something that you need to put a lot of faith into.

How do you know that your god and someone else's god couple in fact be the same person?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same question you just asked above?

I dont fear hell as such. I just wish to serve my master for eternity when I die. Its the least i could do and i wish to do all i can to be able to do this. Being saved by my belief in Jesus gives me that chance to do that.

How do you know that christianty is the only right religion?

For a long time i didnt. But i realised its the only religion that allows me a direct relationship with my creator while i am alive on this earth. God humbled himself enough to become one of us and live with us and then die for us. I feel lucky that i can already walk the earth that my Lord did. When you are a Christian you have a feeling inside you that makes you feel sure you have chosen the best path to God and the one he intends for us. Also Jesus, when he was on earth fulfilled what writers thousands of years before had spoke about the messiah doin. Plus many people saw him alive after he died and it was recorded by different sources. The most important thing its "faith", you neeed faith to believe any of it, unless you happened to be lucky enough to be alive and see Jesus. I rely on what others wrote and the feeling I get inside.

How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god?

Well there is only one God. But God came to this earth as Jesus so i choose follow his message rather than say mohammads or krishnas or buddhas.

How do you know that your god and someone else's god couple in fact be the same person

again, there is only one God so this is obvious that everyones God is the same God. its just the humans that created the different religions around that makes them not to be Gods word or the way that God wants it to be. He wants us to follow him not somone elses word.

I am saved because of the grace of God. Has nothing to do with "fear of hell". I was never really concerned with hell even in the most decadent years of my life. Look through a Bible concordance and see just how few times hell is even mentioned and I think you'll be surprised.

I believe that Christianity is the right way because that's what Jesus taught. He couldn't very well be my savior if I also thought He was a liar and a fraud.

The only other religions that I am aware of which "pray" in a manner similar to that which we pray are Judaism and Islam. Both pray to the God of Abraham, yet reject Jesus as savior. Salvation requires more than prayer.

My God is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. There are no other persons.

1. Knowing that you are saved is a matter of faith. No person can tell you that you're saved or not. God does that.
2. Being afraid of Hell doesn't save you, but the fear of Hell may lead to a trust in God.
3. Christianity is made up of many different churches. I don't believe that there is one 'perfect' church. I don't rely on the church, I rely on knowing what the God tells me.
4. It's different reasons for each other religion. Some religions have more than one God, which contradics thou shall have no other God before me. Others I can't even figure out who they're worshiping...they just don't make sense.
5. I don't understand the last question. I don't get what you're asking.

How do you know if you got saved because you believed in god, or only because of your fear of hell?

Firstly, I do not claim to be saved. I do believe in Christ Jesus which, according to the bible, promises me salvation in the future. But that does not make me saved today. We are not actually saved until after the judgement. In this lifetime we live on a promise and a hope and a deep conviction. Regarding hell, I had never even thought about that until I read this question! Before I came to faith there was neither God nor hell. Then God and I met, that's all.

How do you know that christianty is the only right religion?

I don't. Nor do I think that it is the only right religion! Afterall. what do we mean by the right religion? As I understand it, God revealed himself in stages up to the ultimate revelation through Christ. But this was only to a mere handful of people, who became disciples. God wants belief in Christ to be distributed via humans. But in the meantime, God has revealed his power to the entire world through what has been created. If other people, before they hear of Christ and the gospel, recognise the existence of God and try to form an image of their own to worship, since God has not revealed himself to them yet, is that religion wrong? In my opinion, it only becomes wrong once Christ is known but is then rejected.

In this latter situation I only know that Christianity is the right religion because I have a working relationship with God through Christ, and that God says that Christ is the only way, and that God is not a liar. But my belief in all that is a question of trust - not objective, absolute, empirical, knowledge.

How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god?

Again, I don't know. In fact they quite possibly are! But the fact that they are praying to the same God does not make the religion that they have wrapped around it, the Truth. There may be many reasons why they do not know or recognise Christ, for many I suspect it is simply a question of cultural fate where they happened to have been born and raised. But I believe that all persons at some stage, either in this world or the next will be brought before Christ and will confess him as Lord over everything - the bible says so. But that is not universalism. I do not believe that confessing Christ as all-powerful is the same thing as accepting him as Saviour.

Frustrating though it may be, faith will never be fact - otherwise it is no longer faith. We long for signs and evidence, etc, but we only have trust. Even if Jesus were to come today with the same miracles as before, I doubt that the impact would be any greater than it was then. We are a mistrustful, doubtful bunch of skeptics, even when the proof is under our very noses :)

Just some thoughts.

I personally never even thought of hell. I needed to put my life together and since I understood in the Bible that Christ is on my side and on the sides of the ones that are suffering - it gave me hope and the direction where to go (The fact that he is God in the flesh did not discourage me neither). And the fact that he said that he will never turn away anyone coming to him gave me the assurance that I am saved.

I believe Jesus Christ. It is shown through the prophecies that he is indeed the one that will come from heaven. So, he is the reputable source. He said that no one can come to the Father but through him (Jesus Christ). What about that never heard of the Christ, you might ask - different topic. We know only one thing for sure. If someone rejects Christ he will not see heaven - makes sense. We do not know what is happening with ones that never heard of Christ, or the babies.

Christ said that. He said that if someone does not like the Son, he does not like the Father either. If other religions reject Christ as God then there is a problem, becasue Christ said that if someone rejects who he claims to be thenhe will die in his sins. Besides, the Allah for example, has different characteristics than God of the Bible has. Allah can lie, for example.

Thanks,
Ed

For me everything that I've experienced is consistent with what God tells us in the Bible. As I grow, these experiences get more and more obvious and extraordinary. I definitely did not always feel/think this way. I was an atheist for a quarter of my life. Other religions have some similar characteristics (as you've already read), but not the all encompassing Truth. There is a book that has been the only place where I've seen these sorts of issues addressed satisfactorily: Letters From a Skeptic, by Boyd & Boyd, 1994. It can be found at amazon.com for $5-10, new/used.

As others have said, our relationship with God is key here. A few Christians have put it in a way that is extremely consistent with biblical teachings. Separation from God (Love) is was appears to be the most significant and powerful part of hell. We pretty much know how much losses (death, separation, etc.) or perceived losses of relationships can be so painful. Although you may not feel that there is a relationship between you and God, especially if one is an atheist, etc.,there is. Perhaps it is just underdeveloped. Regardless, this is the relationship of all relationships. If you agree that generally losses are uncomfortable, it may be easier to see that the loss of our relationship with God is the ultimate loss. Although, I've experienced unbelievable losses throughout my life, truely I don't think (sometimes I may think that I can, but I am wrong) that I can begin to image what this would feel like.

Because you had to make a conscious choice to get saved. What was your motivation?

I'm not sure I understand the point of the question.

Both reasons are good reasons.

How do you know that christianty is the only right religion?

Simply put, because all other religious teachings break down at some point. Christ's teachings don't.

How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god? How do you know that your god and someone else's god couple in fact be the same person?

Simple. We know that the Christian God cannot contradict Himself.

Since the gods worshipped in other religions are at odds with the God of Christianity, they cannot be the same God.

QTsoccerchil12,

God is a term all religious people use whether Hebrew, Christian, Muslim, or Buddhist however their concepts of God are very different from each other. It seems natural to want to try and reconcile all religions into one but it just cannot be done.

There are many reasons Christianity cannot align with the other religions. First Jesus alone is the door into heaven (John 10:7-9). Second Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). There are simply no alternative routes available (Acts 4:12 "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!").

Last, in response to being saved, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved" (Romans 10:9,10).

I would think a fear of "hell" is not neccessarily a wrong motive, assumming you believed in God in the first place to make you fear "hell". Proverbs states that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge", so that would indicate that you are following a directed path consciously.

How do you know that christianty is the only right religion?

Christianity walks the straightest line with credibility and makes incredible sense.

How do you know that other religions and christianity arent all praying to the same god?

They may be praying to the same God, If they're understanding that the God is the creator of the universe and of this Earth; but it would be up to God to judge them for what they have misunderstood or ignored.
