  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Same difference!! the fact that ur acknowledging that day, that centers around evil and fear, and witches and demons, things that are evil, u cant have one foot in the world, and one in the Lord, it doesnt work like that. Its pure evil and wrong. and i'll argue this till i'm blue in the face. An old proverb says, "When you sup with the devil, use a long spoon." Presumably, NO genuine Christian would want to sup with the devil at all and yet many may be doing so in ignorance.

As a former witch high priest now saved by Jesus, I was astonished by how many Christians let their kids celebrate Halloween. Some churches even sponsor "haunted houses" and similar events on what is the Number One satanic "helliday" of the year. Halloween used to be called Samhain, and is still celebrated as an ancient pagan festival of the dead by witches all over the world. Unfortunately, just giving the date a "holy" name like All Hallows' Eve or All Saints' Eve cannot change its grisly character. Halloween is an occasion when the ancient gods (actually demons) are worshiped with human sacrifice. The apostle Paul warns us: "But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils" (1 Cor. 10:20).

If you are a Christian parent, God has given you a precious responsibility in your children. Remember, their ability to resist spiritual wickedness is much less than yours. If you allow your children to participate in Halloween (Trick or Treating, costume parties, etc.) you are allowing them to play on "the devil’s turf," and Satan will definitely press his home court advantage. You are opening up doorways into their young lives for evil by bringing them into a kind of "fellowship" with these ancient "gods."

We are commanded not to become involved with the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph. 5:11). Both from my experience as a witch, and since getting saved, as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I have seen far too many examples of how breaking this command works out in lives. Remember, while we have God's promise of protection for ourselves and our children, that promise may not hold if we allow our children to celebrate this dark holiday. Case after case has come to us of children in rebellion. In many of these families, the problem can be traced back to the children being exposed to Halloween at a young age. It is hard enough to raise children these days in a Godly way without exposing them to Satan's realm. Oh, and BTW, it wasnt me, that this story is based on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Um, wasnt it Christians who held on to the Pagan holiday in the first place?

You can't actually believe that just because an institution claims to be Christian that it is all about truth do you?
Of course not, but frankly I'm amazed that you'd presume to judge the Christianity of an entire college you know nothing about, simply because we happened to throw a fun costume party once a year.

As far as not celebrating something because of its history, I'm assuming that's why you also don't celebrate Christmas, or Easter, or go to church on a Sunday, or participate in the American government (or any government) by voting, or even participate in the church at all, considering that we have some pretty awful moments in our own history. I still fail to see how having fun and playing dress-up plays into the hands of the devil, but if you're content to add your own rules to the gospel, then far be it from me to tell you that you have to be okay with Halloween. All I ask is that you quit debating this in a thread that was meant for another purpose and take your self-righteous arguments elsewhere.

Funny you should say that, lol - I'm dressing as an angel this year!

I agree with most of you guys that Halloween is only in good fun - to vilify it and call it evil or satanic shows a lot of ungodly, unreasonable fear in a person, if you ask me.

Anyway, back to the OP - my friends and me are going out this Halloween night and we're all dressing up, for a laugh. I haven't got a lot of money to spend so I'm going for 'simple but effective' - I picked up a pair of novelty white feather wings and a glass pearl necklace which I'm just going to wear with a long skirt, white blouse and some glitter on my face and in my hair. I should be a nice contrast, anyway, with my friend who's going as a generic vampire in black cape and fangs!

Have fun!

In your mind there may be nothing wrong with Halloween, but for many here there is something wrong with it. I would remind everyone of what Paul said top the Corinthians about meat sacrificed to idols.

(1 Cor 8) Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. {2} The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. {3} But the man who loves God is known by God. {4} So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. {5} For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), {6} yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live. {7} But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. {8} But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. {9} Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. {10} For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols? {11} So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. {12} When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. {13} Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

Perhaps, in view of this, the administrators will ban discussion of the virtues or lack thereof in Halloween.
Now let's keep this thread on topic.

Hey Oldrooster - if we're all Christians then shouldn't we ALL be "narrow"? Isn't the path narrow? The very basic tenents of Christianity require this; don't they? I mean, if it lines up with scripture - do it. If it doesn't - it's sin. Right? We can't be politically correct Christians. And we can't pick and choose what we belive - there is but one way to the Father.

AND we have a certain responsibility to other Christians - especially for all the "babies" on this site. We need to keep each other in line. So for those who had their feelings hurt by some of these other posters - get over it. If you're upset, you're probably feeling convicted. Conviction is good if you follow up with change and grow in your walk with Christ.

Kewl, I could be a disabled Angel, maybe with broken wings J/K!! I will more than likely turn off the lights where I am staying and hide. This halloween all depends on all my tests this Friday for me, one is and MRI for my whole back and the other in the same day is electromiligram.

Please Remember Christians can have fun, after all No One is perfect, Just Forgiven!!! :D

Blessings, \o/

Nerd costumes are always favorites. Go to Salvation army store and get some plaid pants and a velour top, or maybe a prairie skirt with a frilly blouse (or something), or one of those maxi-dresses from the 70s. make sure your hose has a couple good runs. Put on too much really blue eyeshadow, make sure the lipstick is outside your lip line. Find a pair of big plastic framed glasses and put some tape on them. Comb your hair straight or wear braids or something.

KristiAnn,

You are correct. Christians can have fun, but we are told to do only what glorifies God. Now I certainly fall miserably short of that standard, but when you say that you know something isn't pleasing to Him and just say, "No problem, I'm forgiven" it is called rebellion against God.

If you are at peace with God about going out and doing the Halloween thing, then OK, but if you know its wrong and plan to do it anyway, I plea for you to reconsider.

God Bless!!!!!!!
