  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just recieved the following email in my inbox:

Staff,

Friday October 29th everyone needs to dress up in your best Halloween costume. First Place will receive two first class round trip airline tickets anywhere within the state of Georgia. Actually, we will award prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for best costume.

Last year we fell off as far as participation (including myself). This year I will be decked out and hope many of you will join me.

However there are a few problems, I am broke and I mean *super* broke, but I want to participate [and] possible win, because I love stuff like that. Any suggestions on what I could/can do?

Same difference!! the fact that ur acknowledging that day, that centers around evil and fear, and witches and demons, things that are evil, u cant have one foot in the world, and one in the Lord, it doesnt work like that. Its pure evil and wrong. and i'll argue this till i'm blue in the face. An old proverb says, "When you sup with the devil, use a long spoon." Presumably, NO genuine Christian would want to sup with the devil at all and yet many may be doing so in ignorance.

As a former witch high priest now saved by Jesus, I was astonished by how many Christians let their kids celebrate Halloween. Some churches even sponsor "haunted houses" and similar events on what is the Number One satanic "helliday" of the year. Halloween used to be called Samhain, and is still celebrated as an ancient pagan festival of the dead by witches all over the world. Unfortunately, just giving the date a "holy" name like All Hallows' Eve or All Saints' Eve cannot change its grisly character. Halloween is an occasion when the ancient gods (actually demons) are worshiped with human sacrifice. The apostle Paul warns us: "But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils" (1 Cor. 10:20).

If you are a Christian parent, God has given you a precious responsibility in your children. Remember, their ability to resist spiritual wickedness is much less than yours. If you allow your children to participate in Halloween (Trick or Treating, costume parties, etc.) you are allowing them to play on "the devil’s turf," and Satan will definitely press his home court advantage. You are opening up doorways into their young lives for evil by bringing them into a kind of "fellowship" with these ancient "gods."

We are commanded not to become involved with the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph. 5:11). Both from my experience as a witch, and since getting saved, as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I have seen far too many examples of how breaking this command works out in lives. Remember, while we have God's promise of protection for ourselves and our children, that promise may not hold if we allow our children to celebrate this dark holiday. Case after case has come to us of children in rebellion. In many of these families, the problem can be traced back to the children being exposed to Halloween at a young age. It is hard enough to raise children these days in a Godly way without exposing them to Satan's realm. Oh, and BTW, it wasnt me, that this story is based on.

I once saw a couple dressed up as "assault and battery" The girl was salt (painted a big box white with an "S" on it, had a salt shaker hat, and white stockings) the boy was a battery (same type of big box, painted to look like a 9 volt battery, and a hat that looked like the 2 holes on the top). They were funny.:)

Personally, every time I get my new calendar for the year, I go directly to Oct. 31 and tear it out! It's the only Christian thing to do. (/sarcasm off)

There are other threads that debate Halloween out here. I've already contributed to them. Needless to say I see nothing wrong with dressing up in a costume no matter what day it is. But I'll have to leave the creative suggestions to someone else. Not my forte.

Maybe you can go to goodwill and look through the stuff there. Here on Tuesdays all of the clothes are half-priced so that's even better. My sister found a great Cousin It costume and bought it for $2.50! She looked really awesome in it. The year before she found some gypsy attire and bought a black curly hair wig, and I did her makeup, she looked really good in that too.

I love Halloween :) This year my fiance bought me a maternity top that has a huge pumpkin where the baby is, so that's what I'm wearing when I pass out the candy. :)

And other people are trying to point out that celebrating a holiday that in its present form has absolutely nothing to do with witchcraft, paganism, or communing with the dead is not necessarily 'dancing with the devil.' There are many Christians who continue to celebrate and enjoy Halloween as a fun time to dress up and play around. If you disagree with this viewpoint, there are other threads where participation in Halloween by Christians is discussed. This is just a costume suggestion thread. You're welcome to express your opinions on this subject, but there are other threads where it would be more appropriate.

As for the subject at hand - my college (my CHRISTIAN college, I might add) held a 'masquerade blade' at the skating rink every year for Halloween. During the past few years, I've dressed up as the farmer's wife (with three friends as the three blind mice), a hobbit, Smurfette, and my personal favorite, English tea. For the farmer's wife, I dressed in an ugly old floral dress I bought at Goodwill for like two bucks, saggy stockings, an apron, a kerchief over my hair, and carried a (fake) butcher knife. For the hobbit, I took an old pair of corduroy trousers, cut them off just below the knee, and wore them with an old button-up shirt and a green vest. I also had a ring on a chain around my neck. My hair was the easy part - I have wild short curly hair anyway - that's how I originally got the idea to go as a hobbit. The only thing I didn't have was big hairy feet. ;) For Smurfette, I got some cheap body paint and painted my face and hands blue, then wore a white frilly dress and a big white cap on my head. And finally, English tea, which was by far the easiest. I wore brown pants and a brown shirt, used white tape to make a giant 'T' on the shirt, and spoke with an English accent all night. It was a last-minute costume idea, but it turned out to be a lot of fun because everyone kept coming up to ask me what in the world I was supposed to be! Anyway, maybe I gave you a few good ideas to start from. You should also google for Halloween costume ideas; I bet you'll come up with some great ideas.

You can't actually believe that just because an institution claims to be Christian that it is all about truth do you?

A look at the history of the day is enough to tell you that you should remain separate from its evils.
