An abomination to God? Surely you jest! How could God get mad about these petty issues

Because they revolve around sun god worship. Look at the true origins of Christmas and Easter. Dec 25th has nothing ot do with the birth of Christ, but rather every other pagan sun God that was born on this day.

Jer 3:12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: 'Return, backsliding Israel,' says YHVH; 'I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,' says YHVH; 'I will not remain angry forever.
Jer 3:13 Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against YHVH your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,' says YHVH.

Easter involved impregnating virgins and killing the babies the following year and dying eggs in their blood... all to glorify Tammuz and Ishtar..

The problem is more of the fact that we celebrate these pagan holidays versus the Feast day's He has given us.

Jer 10:1 Hear the word which YHVH speaks to you, O house of Israel.
Jer 10:2 Thus says YHVH: "Do not learn the way of the Pagans; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Pagans are dismayed at them.

Jer 10:4 They decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple.
Jer 10:5 They are upright, like a palm tree, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them, For they cannot do evil, Nor can they do any good."

I simply can not pitcure God wanting people to stop celebrateing Christmas and Easter. I am not convinced at all. They are what they are, and they are to be celebrated by most Americans.

I am sorry, but this is not truth, and this does not line up with the Word of God.

Do not hold onto traditions of men! Search the Scriptures out for yourself and ask Him to show you.

Neither is Columbus Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, Secretary's Day (oh wait, they don't call it that anymore), Boss' Day...

I could go on and on. But we still celebrate those days, right? And we GLADLY take the day off work for some of them, right?

for me...(IMO):

I see these incl. easter/christmas as just traditions (wordly) - don't give much heed to any of them (expect take them for what I think they are worth)...if I should get a day off - wonderful... ...don't believe getting a day off from these would be displeasing to God..its more a matter of the heart which only God knows...

What does that mean? Do I have a dark heart then? I wont be going out trick or treating this year because I am starting to get to the stage where I'm a little bit too old. Dropping Christmas and Easter, to me that just sounds not pratical.
